Maximum bid I should set? Expensive Keywords!!

Hi all,

This question refers to using google adwords.

I am targeting phrases such as "Industrial supplies", "Scientific supplies" etc for a new amazon associates website I have set up.

I am currently finding that typical prices for keywords are around £1 per click. I have not dealt which expensive keywords like this before and I am a bit afraid of losing a lot of money.

I have ended up spending just over £7 for 11 clicks and I haven't received a return on my investment yet.

Am I just going to keep losing money if I continue just setting keywords and letting my balance go down?

I do not have much experience using google adwords so I would appreciate some advice. When I have time I plan to target some more long-tail keywords for specific industrial supplies.

Thanks

Your maximum bid should be the maximum amount of money you can pay to acquire a customer, there are no expensive keywords, just unprofitable ones.

Its easy to lose money on AdWords. If you are just starting out with it, it would be wise to learn while going after cheaper keywords and go from there.

Also, I suspect you will need 300 or so clicks before you can really determine whether something is hit or miss. Not 11.
