Ranking an Affiliate Website

Admittedly, I know very little about this. I intend to create an affiliate website for a product, lets say lawnmowers parts/ models.

My plan was to have a standard eCommerce website layout with a bunch of pages on the products and these product pages linked to an affiliate page.

Is there any reason this would not work?
Is so, what are the base issues and how do I overcome them?

Getting links to such site is extremely difficult. That's all.
Everything "can work", but without traffic - it's not worth it.

I read somewhere that 'you cannot rank an affiliate website'.
I assumed that Google had some type of algorithm that hates Affiliate websites, is this not true?

Paul, i think Google is not that bad .. the problem is just in the product it self ..and of course a website owner effort's in spreading their backlinks and do other SEO tricks. Hope you success with your affiliate website .. buddy

Try to rank the products individually but do not over do it. Let things come along naturally as well.

I fully intend to rank it naturally, but I just want to get as prepared as possible.

For example, if I start now and then one month down the road it turns out that you cannot rank a pure affiliation site, then i'd be wasting my time.

Does anybody with an amazon affiliate site have any tips/ things to avoid?

Of course you have to use Google Adwords beside Organic Traffic by using SEO for such kind of website, but the most important thing is the product quality it self .. ensure your self that your product is needed at least by some "niche" customers.

That's an easy one If you have something that's also free, example, lawn mower schematics. The schematics would be the link builder, then use those links to rank money pages (PR sculpting). Research the copyrights first.

I'm not familiar with this niche, but this seems like solid plan.

With a proper outreach the OP can definitely get 50+ one way links to this kind of page.

Good and useful content can bring in links... However, I'm not 100% sure that PR sculpting can get himself ranked for "lawn mowers"
