Optimum Anchor Text Ratio

I am just wondering what everybody's opinions are on what the optimum anchor text ratio is for both page level and domain level of a big site.

    It's funny you mention this myth right now. I have 2 different keywords I'm currently working on where competition has almost 100% exact match on their anchor-text for external backlinks. Both comp. rank #1 for their target keywords, both are decent traffic keywords. Both comp. are small sites (less than 50 pages indexed).

      Do you think that they are running the risk of a penalty? I have a client that got a manual penalty that was then revised to a partial penalty, and after several reconsideration requests, we got a couple of examples from them on what they were targeting. The anchor text was the same in each post. I didn't think that it was too crazy, but this got me wondering what, if there is, is the best anchor text ratio.

        Google could eventually target anything, but from what I've seen they're not targeting exact match anchor-text at any percentage level.

    If you are building high quality links which involves low amount of links to your money site then you don't really have to bother about this.

    If you are doing it the other way round you don't have total control over it but it's best to spread it evenly around the URL, brand name, keywords, generic term e.t.c...
