Hello warriors,

I am quite new to SEO and currently I am doing my internship in Estonia. I have a task with SEO, but the niche for this company on the internet is quite small (in English, as far as I am concerned, the niche in Estonian and Russian languages is much bigger). I did not find an answer to my question anywhere so I decided to ask specialists on this forum.

I use Google keyword planner to define keywords for organic SEO (later maybe for paid ads), but the problem is: laser targeted keywords have no searches at all or just have a few (up to 30 monthly searches). So should I leave those closely targeted keywords or it would be better to define more global ones that have more searches?

I was thinking to abandon SEO in English because of very little searches, but there are 30-50% customers that only speak English.

I will be grateful for any advices!

Traffic is traffic as long as it's all targeted towards your niche. Research the competition & see If it's a keyword that's worth your time. Example, I wouldn't waste my time on a 30 traffic keyword per month If monetizing with an affiliate program (ex: Adsense, Amazon, etc...) If the organic SERP competition was tough. If that same 30 traffic keyword was earning me a few thousand ($$) a year & still had tough competition, I would research the competition & consider that keyword.

It's up to you, is the keyword worth your time?

I'm working on a local keyword right now with 700 traffic per month which should min. return $3-4K over 12 months. Not bad for one keyword that really only has one organic comp. that's serious about SEO.

Another thing to keep in mind. Even If you never rank for a tough comp. keyword, If you still target that same keyword you'll eventually pick up relevant longtail keywords.

Thank you for the fast reply.

The website is not monetized, it is more like a catalog with info about services, prices ect.
For example, "accounting services" has about 6600 monthly searches, but the competition is high or "accounting in estonia" has up to 10 searches, but the competition is very low and the site itself (for "accounting in estonia") is already on the 2nd place on SERP. So is it worth to deal with the competetive keywords? Or should I concentrate on keywords with specific place and the long tail ones?
