How To Get Wordpress Blog To Show Up in Google

Hi All,

A year ago I put up a blog using wordpress.com. Call it, say, XYZ.wordpress.com. To check it was being picked up the search engines, I put a google alert on the subject I blogged about. Yet I never got a google alert back. Blogs are search engine friendly? Seems more to it.

Someone suggested I now do this: buy the domain XYZ.com (which I've done) and have the DNS of it and XYZ.wordpress.com point to each other.

A couple of questions:

1. Will this work to make my blog search engine friendly?
2. If I type in XYZ.com will I see the wordpress blog but have the wordpress URL hidden?

    DNS doesn't have anything to do with indexing, it's there to have your domain name come up with the web host provider.

    To get your blog indexed, you need to point a backlink to your blog from a page that is already indexed. For example, you could submit your site to any social bookmarking site that doesn't nofollow links (like Furl, Spurl or Diigo).

    Yes, pointing links from active places that get crawled regularely will get your site indexed. If you had more posts in the forum you could have added the link to your signature.

    Thanks all for your replies. I suspected that was what I had to do, submit to social bookmarking sites. Part of me says that's cheating, its not what social bookmarking was meant for. But, hey, not doing it means I'm ignored by google. So I'll do it.

    A list of recommended social bookmarking sites would be most welcomed! Thanks.

      Hmm, I can see what you mean here - but if your content on your blog is relevant to what you post on the social site, not only is it *not* cheating - it's what the social site are there for, to let readers know about what content is out and about!

        I'm not sure if a sitemap is needed for a blog.

        I had a new domain the other day and wanted a blog
        to go with it. For some reason, I could not find any
        fantastico on the cpanel. The cpanel looked brand new.
        I wanted a blog right away, so I got a wordpress blog
        via wordpress.com. I made 3 quick posts, put the link
        on the domain. The domain was already indexed via
        linking, but a few minutes after I created the blog
        I googled my domain just to see any backlinks. Lo and
        behold, the blog showed up! I'd say it was indexed in
        less than 20 minutes. Now it is true that I have a slew
        of sites to post and get stuff indexed, but getting a wordpress
        blog indexed that quick was quite a pat on the back!

        I have never had any problem getting sites index, the problem
        is getting them ranked!

    For your wordpress blog to be index by google and other search engines to index your wordpress site, all you need is to post to article directory, post on the forums, etc. In mater of days yuor site 'll be index.

    I give this out once in a while, but I always remove the link as I don't want too many people having it.

    Today is actually my day off so I'll be back tomorrow (or even tonight) to remove the link; so, go to it and bookmark it asap. I'm adding another resource soon so bookmarking it will be smarter than just saving the page as your own.

    Btw, not using social bookmarking sites simply because you think it's wrong is not the way to look at it. It's simply this, if you don't use it, you'll be the loser. There's no room for losers. Either you make money or you don't. There's a lot of other marketing tools to use, not just social bookmarking.

    DNS got nothing to do with this. Try getting backlinnks (one or two) from sites that gets crawled each hour or each two hour.

    You can start with digg.com..submit your links.

    1. Submit your sitemap to google webmaster tools
    2. Submit your site to primary social bookmarking (digg, stumbleupon, technorati, etc)
    3. Send pingback use pingomatic
    4. Build some backlinks

    With the above steps your site will index by google in 24hrs.

    Have you created a sitemap of your site. Create a sitemap of your site, submit it through google webmasters. Also make sure you are verified with google. This helps as they crawl your site.
