Hi folks,

Does anyone have any idea if it matters what domain name you have when it comes to being found by search engines and searched words?

In particular in the field of Information Products connected with 'wealth-making'.

Thanks
John (BW)

Yes, it does matter, but it is just one of many factors influencing ranking, and you can do just fine without having the keywords in the domain (but it does help).

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

If you mean .com, .net, .info etc then consensus is that it doesn't matter. Does influence click-through though (.com best followed by .net followed by .info). Stay clear of any of the others (with the exception of locally registered domains - see below).

If you mean what you call your domain then, at the moment, including your keyword in the domain name is very powerful. Including dashes between keywords doesn't seem to cause any harm.

If you are targeting specific country then it helps significantly to have a locally registered domain (e.g. .co.uk) AND to have the site hosted in a local (e.g. UK based) data centre.

If you are new to make money online I suggest that you stay well away from "wealth-making." There are much easier niches to rank well for and make sales.

    Thanks,

    Andy

    Andy and Duval,

Thanks for the replies.. Most illuminating. I managed to get the word 'money' in my domain-name. I shall wait and see now!

I wonder what your interpretation of 'wealth-making' is Andy? I suppose in a way all on-line ventures are concerned with making wealth. Otherwise why indulge? I want to make at least some money. $1,800 a month would be nice!

I'm not considering affiliation or shares, etc. I am targeting the Gambling area, in particular Horse-Racing. It's crowded, but I think there's a 'Hungry Market', and that is what I'd look for if I ran a hot-dog stand!

We shall see once I master the art of uploading from Frontpage to the hosting site! FTP I think it's called!

    Wish me luck there please?

    Cheers
    John (BW)
