I have a local business (electrician) that I use a website to advertise for. SEO isn't doing as much as I would like so I am exploring other avenues.

Someone recommended Moz Local to me, so I am curious how well that service works?

I did the test that they offer and I got a score of 34%. I have no inconstancies and no duplicates. My score is low because it cites incomplete listings and in some places no listings at all.

One thing that I have to mention is that the service talks a lot about accuracy, but it shows me not being on Facebook when that is not true at all. I have a company Facebook page, it has my full company info including a link to my website. And my website has a link directly to my Facebook page. It's odd that it hasn't picked that up.

So what about the Moz Local service? Is it worth it? And what will it do about Facebook, make me a second Facebook page because it's not seeing the existing one?

Hey, can't speak directly about Moz Local but what I think they are looking for is accuracy in your NAP. Name, Address, Phone number across listing sites like Yelp, Manta, etc. etc.

Not so sure about your Facebook page though

For $49 it's worth running the Moz Local service to help add your website, consistently, across major citation sites.

But, don't think that by doing ONLY this, it will help you with SEO and shoot you up in the rankings for your local area.

You need to make sure you have a well structured website with strong "on-page SEO". Also, you should do some keyword research and see what your potential customers (in your serving area) are looking for online each month. If it's a service that you can complete...you should create a dedicated page on your website that talks about this service. This will help you generate more, targeted local leads to your website each month.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

      Thanks for the detailed reply.

I have landing pages for many of the towns that I work in and I also have landing pages focused specifically on the different services that I offer. I'm an electrical contractor focused on small to medium residential work, BTW.

I believe my site has good on-page SEO.

I was paying a pro to do off-page SEO, but my budget is pretty low right now so I still haven't been getting many calls.

I was planning on using that money on AdWords instead, but I'm not sure how to set it up and I don't want to waste the little money I have for advertising.

I've tried to do keyword research with the keyword planner, but I am not sure what I am looking for.
