Google Adwords... How Many Keywords Per Ad-Group?

I've been doing ad-words for just a short time now and just curious as to what some of your opinions are on how many keywords you use per ad-group? I've heard a few different scenarios some like just 1 or 2 and some seem to like about 250.

    never use 250, I don't know who told you that!! The less the better, I always put 1 keyword per adgroup, that way you can remain highly targeted and relevant your visitor.

    if you are new at PPC I would highly recommend using tracking too, otherwise you are flying blind.

    Prosper202 is a very good free open source tracker, I'd look into that.

    And yes, the fewer the better. Sometimes if they're almost the exact same keyword they should be in the same group.

    15 tops of highly related keywords, examples incude adding an 's' and miss spelled words. And yah, always always always test or you can not improve! Good luck!

      It does not matter how many you have. Usually it will range anywhere from 0-50, but the main point is to have a common keyword that is included within all of them in order to get higher position and ranking.

      Example Adgroup: Make money online

      how to make money online
      make money online tips
      make money online strategies
      make money online guides
      etc etc etc...

      Notice they all have the common terms "make money online" within them.

      Another thing to do is use all 3 types of kw:

      how to make money online
      "how to make money online"
      [how to make money online]

    Add 1 or 2 keywords in the adwords. which are most important keywords only. added in the

    I use one keyphrase per ad group, and ads targeted at the keyphrase.

    And don't forget to split test ads, and tweak and tweak until your campaign is almost perfect!

    This question comes up every week. I'm with Sniper on this one but we seem to be in the minority around here. You don't want 100s of keywords in a group simply for management as well as quality issues. 50 might be high, depends on the keywords, a dozen or so (of all match types) is very manageable. But having one-keyword groups would have its own management issues. Sniper's example is but one product. What if you have a dozen more? OK, there are software tools to easily build such campaigns but the huge number of groups makes my head spin. Most of them would get so few impressions, it would be hard to optimize due to lack of data. My two cents.

      from what I understand, you should have a decent number of relevant keywords. Limiting yourself to 1 or 2 may not be the best option, but loading it with pointless keywords will hurt aswell. I would consider capping it at a max of 50, its more about quality and relevancy than quantity

    It matters very much how many keywords you have per ad group, and it is extremely important to have very, very few. I limit mine to 1-2 per ad group. Years ago I used to put in 10, 20, 30, 50, whatever (I never saw the reason to limit them) but now, in the wisdom gained from making mistakes, I understand the need and necessity of tightly limiting the number of keywords per ad group.

    I'll start out with maybe 12 targeted keywords per campaign. I'll break those down into 1 or 2 keywords per group (very tightly related) and then create maybe 6-12 ads for each of those groups. So one campaign may have 100 or so different ads. That's the only way to do accurate performance testing and to maintain strict control over your ad distribution.

      Is your campaign geo-targeted? This happens to me when some locations aren't eligible for enough queries to be quantified.
