groups.google.com affiliate sites?

Hi I'm noticing groups.google.com that are affiliate sites are ranking a lot more these days. Most of these sites are just text. Is google ranking their own sites despite the content?

    Yeah, I've seen a lot of these content thin sites that are owned by Google dominating the serps recently. Might be something in it! What is their backlink profile like? All the ones I've found were spammed to death.

      They have no back link profile.

    I've always thought that anything related to Google such as any of the profiles or pages or even groups would rank better than other sites. Google denies they are showing this type of favoritism, but everyone can see it happening.
