Help! Traffic and Income Dropping

Hi,

I have a fitness website that earns money through reviews and amazon commissions etc.

Back in April it netted over $2000 for the month. Now though its only made about $600 per month.

The main difference is that I have been building links rather than adding content. So I have signed up to a few article directories and created some of my own little blogs linking back.

In the past two months I have probably put just 2 posts up on the site.

Traffic has roughly halved from april wehn I would average 200 visitors a day, to now when its just 100.

What do I need to do to rebuild my traffic, is it as simple as adding more content. Or have my linking efforts damaged my site?

    Hey

By focusing on your link building campagn during this period, you had less time to manage your articles. But the good new is i think you will profit from that later! It's a matter of time.

Back to your concern, you have the answer. Repeat what you did to get those daily 200 visitors. There is no magic bullet.

By the way, you need to check if your site has been touched by these recent big G updates.

    Have a great day
    - Jesisco

I think you are right Jesisco,

Thing is I lost my job back in November, and worked full time on the site when unemployed. Now I am back to work its much harder to produce content.

Might be best to reinvest some of the income generated into more content and try and pull things back.

Great! If you don't have time just outsource what is boring and focus on what you like in that process. E.g let other build manually / naturally your backlinks while playing with your content part!

I don't think your linking efforts harmed your site. I think it has more to do with less focus on content. Also, the momentary shift in traffic could be because of what we call Google dance. I'm sure it's going to bounce back into position soon.

Did your Google rankings decrease? If so, it's probably a minor penalty or probably because you stopped adding fresh content. Google favors websites that publish fresh content regularly and rewards them with more traffic. Just add more content.

While you are at it, make sure your link profile isn't over-optimized. Use a backlink analysis tool (Ahrefs recommended) and check for undue exact match anchor text usage. Branded anchors should make up the majority of the linking anchors to your site.
