So I have heard a lot of different views on keyword research. I just noticed one that says you should use keywords that have high competition and high searches because it is obviously a word people search for and that makes money.

I was just wondering what your thoughts are on keyword research. This method makes sense to me. But I know I have heard people say you should pick based on high search and low competition. What are the pro's and con's of each method?

You should consider about low and medium competition keywords. Always focus on 3+ word keywords, they are easily to target and sit to the 1st page of google. Visitor never use "DOG TRAINING" , they like HOW TO TEACH DOG or HOW TO GIVE TRAINING TO DOG, something like that. so always focus on long word keywords.

For doing a good keyword research first of all you have to judge the value of keywords. Know how much your keyword worth for your website, try to understand long tail of your keywords, use various techniques to find the proper keywords, know the chances of keyword difficulty and success, select less competitive keywords with high search volume.

There are generally three elements to the holy grail of keyword research:

    1. High search volume
    2. Low competition
    3. Highly lucrative niche with good conversions

It's very hard to find a combination of all three, so you usually have to sacrifice one of them to make a go of it.
