I wouldn't say it's better as both SEO and PPC have a place in your marketing mix. SEO is more about being in it for the long haul whereas PPC is going to be a shorter term strategy.

Is that why apple, amazon, et. al. have perpetual adwords running, AND appear
      simultaneously #1 in SERPS?

People sometimes confuse cheaper with better.

Exactly. Once you have done these a while, it's better to have a combination of both.

Hi, I believe that both SEO and PPC are very important for a website. By using PPC you can get traffic for your site but you have to pay for every visitor. While in SEO you have to create backlinks and you get visitors, but it is long term and ongoing process.

Of course it is. You do not need to have a massive budget with SEO. However, you do have a much bigger learning curve, and results are much slower. Worth it, but slower.

Depends on your goal... if you're selling products, PPC is often worth more than SEO.

    They both have their benefits.

    1. SEO has become a death trap for many people who don't know the dos and don'ts.

    2. SEO is a long term goal while PPC traffic starts instantly.

    3. PPC is easier to learn than SEO.

    4. PPC is more expensive to run than SEO.

I think it's an over statement to say SEO is better than PPC.

Some people will never make it to the top of Google while PPC may work for them.

    better to implement both.

PPC is good to get new sites up and running but of course you'd want these sites to be as SEO friendly as possible so they stick as you lower your PPC budget.

A good marketer would emphasize both

I agree. However, it is better if your a beginner to use paid traffic sources, that way you get some traffic, and start up money to invest in seo.

If you are having thin affiliate sites, then PPC only can help you to get traffic. However if you have content rich websites with lot of useful info and niche specific then SEO will be the way to go to get lot of organic visitors for free. However SEO is an long term process and if you are in a hurry to see the income potential then PPC is the way to go.

PPC has its own place and can never be replaced with SEO. Is there any website who can occupy number 1 position for most of the keywords in their niche ? The answer is NO
In PPC if you bid for higher amount you can be # 1 result for all your desired keywords instantly but that is not the case with SEO. SEO is for those who have the patience and willing to put efforts to achieve long term results. PPC is for those who want immediate ROI.

Remember even Google is what today due to their PPC ads only and not because of people doing seo to get free traffic to their sites. Hence the regular updates from google like penguin, panda, humming bird etc. In addition to that Manual penalty if google identifies that you are in Page 1 due to spammy link building methods.

Either one is fine, a combination of the tow can give you a ton of information that will help you optimize your SEO campaigns as well as your PPC campaigns.

I'm always confused when companies tell me that they want a "content marketer" or a "social media manager". SEO now-days should include both of these, and any good SEO should understand how to optimize a paid traffic campaign.

It's good that you feel like you're starting to understand SEO though, start testing out on some websites and tell us your results.

Both are equally important... bot for best ranking & conversion... always go for organic ranking as compare to PPC... PPC is just for short term..

I look at it the opposite way ... PPC is a long term strategy, SEO is short term. If you rely on SEO, you're at the mercy of Google and your competitors collective SEO budgets. How many times after there is a Google update do we see a dozen plus threads all singing the same "My rankings disappeared" song. And what happened to all of that time and money spent crawling your way to the top? It's gone. SEO is temporary.

PPC is stable and predictable. You can optimize pages for conversions instead of for traffic. You're in control of your budget. It doesn't matter what other people are bidding - if you can't afford the top spot, you can usually still afford the sidebar (in fact, the sidebar usually converts better for the dollar). You can re-engage people on other sites they visit via the display network. You can target individual pages with a banner - simply Google your favorite keyword, then look at all of the top ten organic results and see which ones are running AdSense, then target an AdWords ad on those pages.

I don't waste one minute on SEO anymore.

If you're paying for traffic, you better hope your site already has its SEO (and other things) together. SEO should be part of your digital brick and mortar.

People who want to put in the time and learn a long term better strategy should go with SEO. If you dont want to learn and want an instant listing go with PPC.

In my opinion, PPC is better for short term results, because you don't have to wait 2 or 3 month, for rank your site in Google1rst page, so the traffic is inmediately. But SEO is cheaper (for medium-low competence keywords

SEO is good for having traffic through back links, but it is not clear to every expert as the search engines do not reveal what changes they had made to upgrade it. PPC however is paid services and you cannot do it yourself as you can do seo. Both the techniques are good if you want rank of the site in topmost online searches.

  • You are right but there are some basic difference between SEO and PPC
    >> Where they are displayed
    >> The cost of ranking
    >> Involvement with your site
    >> Traffic potential
Just think about it you can easily find the difference.

    Both are equally important.

You can reach totally new audiences with PPC which you can't with seo even if you were the top of results. There is a reason big companies use PPC despite being first in results.

My Take - There isn't any one strategy that works completely. We have to throw in a lot of social media and other practices to get the desired results.

It all depends, my Amazon affiliate sites would never become profitable with PPC while they are very profitable with SEO so it just depends on your skill set or on who you hire.

The both PPC and SEO is used for same purpose and that is traffic for a website, but used in different situation. PPC is used when you need instant traffic to your website, the traffic generated by in are not natural. But SEO is an organic process, gives you the visitor who eagerly want to find you.

For those people who are running short of finance, all would agree that PPC isn't for them. But, studying SEO can be easy and totally free of cost as there are hundreds of thousands to tutorials available. I am also doing the same - learning SEO everyday and I also feel I improved a bit.
