Everyone focuses on Google, even to the point of despair if they get nuked by them. So, is Bing and Yahoo like the minor leagues or worse, when it comes to marketing through search engine optimization?

Thanks for your input.

Bing and Yahoo do not bring very much traffic, so people tend to forget about them.

The ranking methods for Yahoo and Bing are far different from ranking in Google and also it will not yield even 25 % of traffic even when you reach page 1 results for their keywords. However you can use Bing PPC ads which can provide you instant traffic with much lower cost than google adwords.

Faulse. It's under 30% of traffic now.
Is 30% not much? I don't think so.

I'm working on bing and i can tell you, that it CAN bring traffic. And it can do that quite well.

From personal experience, I have found that ranking via Bing and Yahoo are much easier than Ranking in google, obviously. However, I have also noticed that when I begin ranking well in Google, I begin decreasing in the SERPS related to Bing and Yahoo. Focusing on Bing and Yahoo is a great way to start pulling in traffic. I was ranking page on on Yahoo and Bing for a very competitive keyword last year that brought in about 300- 500 unique hits per day. However, when I ranked page one on Google for the same keyword, my yahoo rank dropped to page two, and because page one on Google displayed my site I began bringing in a wealthy 30K hits per day uniquely.

    Hope that helps.

I will say all 3 search engines are good when it comes to traffic because the traffic are 100% relevant.

Yes it is true Google is giant search player but bing and yahoo also have good searches monthly.

I think I should show you some traffic data about my website (Just the organic traffic).

Google can bring nearly 1,000 daily visitors to my website, Yahoo can bring 15-20 daily visitors and bing can bring 10-20 daily visitors. So that's the reason why people focus on Google but not Yahoo and Bing. I think we just need to submit our website's XML sitemap to Bing and Yahoo, that's all. You should know that when we do SEO for Google, actually we also do SEO for Yahoo and Bing at the same time. However, we should adjust our SEO works according to the changes of Google but not Yahoo and Bing.

Interesting comment so far guys, relating to which search engine gives you the most hits, unique visits or traffic.

My follow up question is ... Has anyone you know actually tested which search engine actually generated the most buyers percentage-wise?

I would assume Google, based on the shear volume, but they may also have the most information seekers, freebie hunters and curiosity seekers too.

I'd be curious to know the numbers. I'm sure they exist somewhere.

I haven't even thought about trying to rank in those search engines. I guess I should.

I haven't even used yahoo search in years. "Probably 8 years" And only tried bing search once and went back to google.

But yes I guess we should work on ranking in those other search engines as there's many people using them.

I would never rank my sites on Bing or yahoo! there is no point in it... as they bring far less traffic compared to Google.

I think people make the mistake of thinking, oh bing is just a search engine like google,
so what the heck? Then talk about some 30% of something.

Problem is, they are different as night and day. That's like saying that some tee-ball team
is a baseball team, so why go see the Yankees play?

Look at the difference and the difference is key. The Yankess could be seen as
Baseball with a capital B. That tee-ball team is for neighborhood ex-soccer moms
to give Junior a chance to play. The audiences are not the same. They serve a
      different purpose.

Bing serves a much different purpose than Google. So when one talks about 30%
of something going for bing, that does not really compute to 30% of what the rest of
the world does. They have different audiences. Ditto for comparing FB to google.

It's not about appearing in search results in bing. It's about who is actually looking
at them. Right now, the audience on google has spoken.

How much money online do you think MS has made with Bing?

Answer: Not a penny. They have lost billions over the past few years, and
millions more this year. Yes, million$. What does that say about their
audience? They are on track to lose a billion dollars more this year.

It is far easier to rank in Yahoo and Bing, but it still does take work. The question is does the work return a profit. I find it does, but not a lot. I have some sites on the first page of Yahoo and Bing, and they get sales here and there, but not a lot.

It is only worth it because it was easy to rank them. So if you have a site that is going to be easy to rank then yes, it is worth the time for a long term benefit.

If you rank on Google, you will rank on Yahoo and Bing most of the times. The problem is the latter aren't as sophisticated as the big G. Their algos still rely on tags and many times itseems just tags alone. It's a different ball game to rank on big G though. But, it has its benefits - you'd be seen by more than half the globe in your niche if you are in the good books of Google.

Google is just a big brother of the two. Traffic can be found through all search engines. Its just more people use google than the two.

The answer lies with ourselves. Why should we point fingers at a certain search engine for any reason if it is we who are using them? It is like asking kids in schools to discuss about the upsides and downsides of technology. If we are using Google a lot, then obviously we will find more success with that only. And that's what the world has been doing so far.

Baidu is very popular in China and Yandex in Russia. SEO and IM'ers struggle with Google's updates, they have the choice to consider other search engines.

Bing and Yahoo are wort it if and only if your target keyword has a decent search volume In Yahoo and Bing. If it doesn't, it would be a complete waste of your time.

bing is underated in our book.

Its sort of like GOOGLE in teh cash ads days. We get good clicks, and high quality subscribers for 5c - 8c a click. That is pretty good if you ask me.

It depends on your country. In Australia Google has over 95% market share of search, so Bing, Yahoo and the rest are not that important. But, having said that, I have noticed that traffic from Bing seems to convert a lot better than Google.

Seems plausible that Bing and Yahoo could convert better. Although Google gets more traffic. Bing and Yahoo has less noise (on the competition side). So it could be a two-edge sword that could possibly work in your favor.

The only way to tell ... is to test it. I'm sure some products or services convert better than others.

I wonder how many people just "assume" Google is the better across the board converter just because ... it's Google.

But they've never tested multiple product, timing, marketing situations on its own. Just askin'.

Bing and yahoo algorithms are so basic that sometimes their results seem random. That's why they do not have loyal subscribers. I don't believe they have more than 10% market share, 30% is ridiculously high according my internal stats.

But does that automatically mean they would "convert" bad or worse than Google?

They will convert OK, sometimes better than Google. But this is not the case. I prefer having a CR of 1% from 10.000 people than a CR of 2% from 100.

So we all concentrate on how to bring traffic from Google, trying to figure out how we must present our content in order its algorithms to like and rank it. Bing and Yahoo is just a side effect, if they rank us also it's ok, otherwise we just don't care.

Google is the undisputed king of 'spartan searching'. While it doesn't offer all the shopping center features of Yahoo!, Google is fast, relevant, and the largest single catalogue of Web pages available today.

As of now, from where I am sitting (and from all the people I know), "Google it" is heard a lot more often than "Bing it" or "yahoo it".
