Is this a faulty link building strategy?

I 've been building links to one of my sites but have only been building them to my internal pages. It's working in the sense that the internal pages I'm building links to are getting PR. My question is: is building back links to my homepage worth any value?

I suggest build backlinks to your homesite first about 40-50% of your total links the rest, divide it to all the remaining people alive

According to one of the Stompernet videos I watched, building backlinks to your inner pages as opposed to home page is more than fine - it's actually what was recommended in the video. Of course, on each inner page, you have a link to your home page (preferable that link should have your keywords and not "home") so you'll get a lot of "juice" to the home page through the inner pages anyway.

  Yes, it is a really good strategy. Getting good backlinks to individual pages on your site with good anchor text means you are helping Google to know what your pages are about and that they are respected resources for people's searches. Like cashcow said, that linklove is also passed back up to your home page anyway.

I would say it all depends on the type of business. Sometimes the homepage is there to reflect the most general keywords, in which case links focused on the homepage are necessary. Also I would like to point to the fact that links need to be acquired not so much for the sake of pagerank as for higher search engine positions, i.e. anchor text and relevancy are two key components here.

I split mine about 50-50 but should probably be doing more like 25-75 in favor of the internal pages. I like having my primary keywords linked to my main page. I am mostly talking about blogs as I set most of my landing pages up on WP blogs of a variety of sorts.
