Newbie in need of some seo help

Hi guys, I'm new to this seo thing and been reading seo articles online for about a week while editing my website as and when i learnt a new trick.

Basically I used some tools to analyse and edit my site and so far I managed to get my site to page 3 on google search. I only have less than 10 backlinks though and am trying to build more backlinks. My question is will increasing my quality backlinks help my google search ranking or are there other factors I'll have to look into? I'm aiming for page 1 on search rankings and any help will be much appreciated

    Are you actually reading anything relevant to seo? seems like you're asking a basic, general question, quite possibly one that will be repeated 2000x today.

    Read blogs from companies who are 'known' in the industry. Moz.com for starters. You're building a business.

    Anyway. Ranking websites consists of two things, on-page and off-page seo.

    My question to you is, would you read your own website if you were looking for the information your website is based on? Would you be proud to show off your website to the president of america? Would you walk into google cooperate and say; Hey look at my website, its a lot better than the every site on the top 10 results, would they hire you on the spot since its so good?

    Or are you producing garbage in hopes of making money because you heard its a 'easy' way to make some cash.

    i used seoquake to diagnose and edit my on site. i'm not making a site to get cash from adsense and the like, its to promote my product and i've been building some backlinks, it only came up in google search like 3 days ago

      I understand. Why do you trust seoquake to give you the correct information? It could be correct, but you need to figure out why it is or why it isn't.

      Do you have your own physical product? Or are you just selling something from amazon.

    First and foremost remember, content is KING. If you have a site with relevant content that people want to read, and you are already on page 3 then get a few high quality backlinks, and watch your site rise to page one

    Increasing your quality content on the site, and increasing your quality backlinks will get you to page 1!

    I love the fact that you are learning, and taking action. With this trait alone, you are many steps ahead of most! Good luck to you, and way to go thus far!!

    thanks for the replies, so far i've been reviewing my site content figuring what a consumer will want to read and fine tuning my content along the way and also placing some backlinks

    Back-links will definitely help you to get on page 1 but they must be high quality PR back links. Also On page and off page optimization play an important role.

    Congratulations on hitting page three. Your efforts are paying off. To hit page one build quality backlinks and also focus on social media marketing. Google loves that.

    just some updates, my site dropped in ranking to 4th page yesterday but today it jumped to page 2 and it was on the bottom of page 2 earlier in the day now its almost climbing to the top of page 2
