After a of bit of brainstorming this morning.

'Content is King' - what does this mean to google.

Google wants to give its users the most relevant search results. As a website, is your content covering the topic; well enough, quick enough, relevant enough or will i leave your website instantly because its garbage.

When i do a search, i expect to find the information i am looking for eventually. Finding it quickly isn't necessary.I will hunt for the information, learn and 'eat until i am full.'

Google isn't me, it'll be hard for them to know exactly what i need/want.

However, If i am searching to buy something ill start by looking up some basic info. Then, ill search for a few real life - human forum posts, reviews, experiences. After I've had my fill, ill make a purchase by going directly to amazon and not through some crappy niche website's buy now button.

Usually I will already be on amazon in the first place. They have user reviews, the actual product itself, they have other products related to that topic, description, price, shipping, rating. Everything is covered..vaguely.

Google knows, trusts, and believes that big websites like amazon will hopefully have enough information to cover the topic just vaguely enough for me to be satisfied with the result.

Majority of the time they will give credit to these websites because it is a safe way for them to return something remotely relevant.

Google will rank these websites higher than many niche sites because the user (me) won't be unsatisfied with the information i find on amazon, they might not cover the topic fully; but at least they gave me somewhat of what i needed. Making eCommerce websites easy-outs for google, they can place them higher in the serps and not have to worry about backlash and criticism from users (me and you).

The phrase "google it" isn't around for no reason. I will stop using google once they stop returning relevant results.

TL;DR:
  • Google is a business - They need 'easy-outs' - ecommerce websites are good enough for a lot of keywords phrases.
  • Become that easy out. Become the website that is a go-to resource.
