Can google keyword stats be trusted?

A newbie here at forum. I am not trying to bad mouth Google but I wonder if the the number of searches per keyword in their old keyword selector tool or new tool (at analytics) really is accurate or even close? What I mean is after a lot of effort recently, I put my site on the top page of Google for words chiropractors and chiropractic in my city (300,000 pop) and a few surrounding cities. According to Google over 500 searches a month were performed for my 2 keywords in these cities... But only 1 or 2 visits a week! Does that make sense? Based on all my effort, local SEO was not worth it for sure!

Or in older days (3 years ago) when I was naive and bought back-links, I got myself on the top page of Google for both "business coach" and "business coaching" keywords where according to old keyword selector tool of Google, over 100,000 searches were done a month and yet I got ONLY on average 15 visitors a day from Google! I just want your opinion on how accurate these figures are on the number of searches a month from analytics, SEMRush, Majestic, and similar tools.

And finally after all the effort, does SEO pays for all efforts vs. PPC for local marketing of doctors, attorneys or whatever local biz? Thanks for any insight....

That 100,000 monthly searches estimate was for broad match, not exact match. As for the 500 searches per month keywords, you won't get all 1,000 visitors to your site. Case studies have proven that the #1 result on Google gets approximately 40% of the traffic for the keyword searched, and it's much lower if you aren't ranking in the top 5 results.

Google's keyword tool is the most accurate tool for finding out how many searches are carried out for any keyword in Google.

SEO is more rewarding than PPC because it costs less but PPC generates ROI much faster.
