Hi All

Have a relatively new site, that provides (I think ) interesting articles, in the form of lists...top 10 list etc... It gets quite a bit of traffic but also a very high bounce rate...Recently went from 80% to 90%

What could I do , to bring this down? Should I be concerned

Many Thanks

This is an unusually high bounce rate which means that 80-90% of the traffic don't click anything on the website. Should you be worried - I don't know ...

Does Google care about bounce rate? Sometimes more, others less - it depends on the mood of the update animal. It is sure that if a web page access top position and users click the back button fast, the page drops.

If the traffic comes from other sources and if you are sure that the links are interesting, may be you receive untargeted traffic. Thus you should not be worried at all.

Where is your traffic coming from? Google? Or paid ads from other sites? Are you tracking your keywords? Is your site image based? Are you making users click another page to see one part of the "Top 10"? What kind of host do you use?

It's all organic traffic and yep track the keywords. It's a mixture of images and text - 50/50 most likely. It's shared hosting. I've got a side bar widget with popular posts but don't use a related posts plugin of any sort.

You should try to get a shared widget plugin because it will help people navigate your site easier. Usually the popular posts widget isn't near the bottom of the post. People want it to be easy to find another post, which the shared widget allows because they don't have to scroll back to the top.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Are you making money now? Which keywords are making you money? Expand around those keywords - expand your articles, add subheads and give more "interesting" content, create similar new posts with similar titles -use hyperlink title text - within the post or right above it, or next to it to get them to click.

Give them more of what they came for. If your site is loading fast, that should help your bounce rate.

Try some kind of exit-intent popup service like Bounce Exchange, OptiMonk, or Picreel.

Here is an example video demostrating how this technique is used to decrease the bounce rate and increase visitor time, conversion, and opt-in rates. It works with blogs or forums as well, not just with ecommerce sites.

First off, from which page are your visitors bouncing off? Is it the homepage or other pages on your site? Determine which pages visitors are coming through and bouncing off of and try showcasing interesting content more on those pages.

The design of your site also plays an important role in the ability of your site to retain visitors. So if your site is designed poorly, you know what to do.

Well, I would say yes you should be concerned because it seems that visitors are coming down to to your website but they are not interested in having a look around your site, which results in higher bounce rate I think you should have a look over the content written over there I think you are not providing your visitors with the information they are looking for, try to point out such things also try making your site more connected with user as there are 90% of the case where just because the site is not visitors friendly the bounce rate of site started increasing.
