HI there,

Does anyone know if "Exact Match Domains" are still effective?
About 3 years ago I had an EMD that was doing well for while, then one morning I woke up and it had completely vanished! I've stayed away from them since.

Exact Match domains are still getting high ranks but the promotions should be done in proper way and no over promotions.

EMD's aren't that awesome as they used to be. It is way too easy to trigger an overoptimization penalty on Google and you don't want that. Therefore, use an UNIQUE and BRANDABLE domainname.

There is nothing wrong with EMDs except that they are not brandable. That said, EMDs no longer have that rank-boosting power they used to have.

They never had any ranking boost. They were part of the parlor trick mentality of SEO
that was touted by so many. If you could look up my old posts, you'd see I've been saying that
      for years. Nobody listened.

There must be some EMD epidemic going on. Have not seen such action on EMDs here in about
3 or 4 years...pity. Somebody must have a lot of followers that are drinking the kool aid.

At some point in time their was actually an EMD penalty that went into effect within the algorithm. Not sure it it was just targeting low quality sites or anything that was overly keyword optimized that went along the lines of the keyword in the domain.

I am not sure if this penalty is still in effect or if other aspects of Panda has made the EMD penalty a thing of the past.

Google Panda includes a penalty for low quality sites with Exact Match Domain names. So don't depend on Exact Match Domains as a SEO tool. They are still useful to entice visitors, but not as useful for Google placement and could even be harmful if Google decides that your site is low quality. Here is a quote from Matt Cutts of Google

"Minor weather report: small upcoming Google algo change will reduce low-quality "exact-match" domains in search results."

In my personal opinion the domain name has always had very little to do with placement, but can do a lot for getting searchers to click the link. So maybe looking for more clickable domain names may be a better trick than exact match domain names.

PMDs are "supposedly" ranking better now, but I'd stay away from EMDs.

EMDs are still effective (in few cases) but, as long as the site is designed focusing visitors and not to get some quick clicks and all.

When I say they are effective, I mean for niches with low-to-mid level competition. And yes, I know what I am saying because I have been dealing with it every now and then; even in 2014.

Though if you have a competitive niche, I wouldn't suggest you to rely on EMDs only.

      Enjoy.

    Hi
Exact domain matching, for example, web design bangalore is a keyword, the domain will be webdesignbangalore.com, these kind of methods where used and now also it is used, previously it was google told they wont support, but now they are supporting these.
