Couple questions for you gurus:)

Hey everyone, hope you're all well.

I'm in the process of setting up a WP website, and I have a couple questions.

The first thing, is that my homepage is set to display latest posts. I like this idea, but as the posts are displayed in full on the homepage rather than small summaries, this content is duplicated twice on the site. Once on the homepage, and once on the post itself. Should I find a new way to display the homepage? Is there an option to display only a small summery, or should I do something new altogether.

My second question - The site features heavily around images. For example, most pages have around 500 words of texts, and about 20 images at the bottom of the page. In terms of SEO on these images, as it stands I have left the image names the same as where they came from. Should I change the alt tags to the keyword for that page? If so, would all the images have the same name, or should I name them all differently.

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

Alex

To make your posts appear as excerpts on the homepage, simply add the more tag to the part of the post where you want the excerpt to stop. This is the more tag: <!--more-->. You can also customize it: Customizing the Read More « WordPress Codex

Give the images different alt tags or just leave their alt tags blank if you do not know what to include there. But at least one of the images should have an alt tag with your keyword in it.

    Alex,

The alt tags can be beneficial to bring in search strings (long tail keywords) you might not think of as well as anyone searching for images. I'm not sure but personally I would be careful of creating multiple alt tags that are the same as all the others as it could be considered stuffing.

    Hope that helps.

For your first question, You can use canonical tag to every post page it will tell search engine that consider your post page not home pages.. Canonical tag basically use for primary source of information...

Can you elaborate more about your 2nd question.. As i didn't get it.

First piece of advice ~ cheap shared hosting sucks. Brands like GoDaddy, HostGator, Bluehost, Dreamhost, iPage, FatCow, Unified Layer, etc. They all suck.

Why? They take your money for a year with a 'cheap' offer, and then you get hacked ~ and you will get hacked ~ they simply don't care whether you stay or you leave.

Not only that, but their servers run so slow because they are so oversold, you can never get a site on one of them to be highly ranked by Google.

Its up to you of course, but why start out the wrong way when for a few bucks more you can do it like a professional.

Website speed has a huge effect on SEO. ‪‬‬When you have a fast WordPress web-server, not only will search engines reward your sites by sending more visitors; the conversion rates are far higher for sites that load faster than their slower competitors

Second piece of advice ~ check out my sig and grab my super-fast server offer.

    Terence.
