Hello Everyone,

Sorry all a few more beginner questions.

I know there are many factors in evaluating certain words so my questions below assume all things equal.

1. If a youtube video or Pinterest site is ranked in the top 10 - Are they tough to beat, with a well optimized page can you rank higher than these sites?

2. As an example for a niche like "golf shoes" the competition is way to strong (for me) however, sometimes a sub-niche like "Size 12 Callaway Golf shoes" will show a good search volume with very little competition. Is it a better to create a whole website and only focus on size twelve shoes? or can I still target "golf shoes" as my main site and just optimize multiple pages for the size 12 shoes and hope to eventually break into the more difficult keyword?

If anyone can provide some direction it would be greatly appreciated. These questions are holding me back with selecting my final niche. And they ultimately can have a huge impact on what I go with.

If you do respond please let me know which question you are responding to.
Thanks so much in advance to anyone who replies.

    1. Yeah, you can beat them with a well optimised site and strong backlinks.

    2. Go with the latter. Create a site with 'golf shoes' as the main keyword and internal pages targetting long tail keywords like "Size 12 Callaway Golf shoes". That said, if I were you, I'd find a keyword with much lower competition to use as my main keyword. 'Golf shoes' is just too competitive.

Pinterest pages aren't tough to beat, infact they are some of the easiest. The only reason they rank is because of the domain authority of the parent site. So a well optimized can rank over them any day.

Thanks for the share, as a newer site owner I have some pretty stiff competition to rank against. This info helps me alot.

Thanks for the comments guys - Really appreciate it. This will help me nail down my selection.

SEO Power: I agree completely, golf shoes would be way too competitive, was just using that as an example. I was thinking the latter was the better option as well as you suggested - Reason being I'm would hope my pages would rank for the long tail versions, then as I grow maybe they will rank for the short tail as well. Also, as I branch out I don't want my main site to be too narrow.

I was hoping pinterest would be somewhat easy to outrank - they seem to pop up on most searches involving hobbies.
