I want to create a wordpress site and monetize it with affiliate links and ads. Problem is, I don't know where to begin.

I don't know how to choose the right keyword/niche. Not sure about getting traffic either. Are backlinks still relevant? Google seems to be always changing so I don't know what techniques work these days.

Is there a good preferably free tutorial that can show me the basics? I have had made websites before with SBI but all of them failed.

    Hi

There are plenty of ways that you can build an income and monetise your blog.

If you want free ways, I suggest you search on YouTube. I always find what I am looking for on YouTube and it's a great way of learning - if you know exactly what you want to learn about.

If you don't mind paying, Chris Farrell's site here, will show you exactly how to make money as an affiliate marketer and he specialises in helping newbies. He will teach you the basics in how to get your sites up and running, how to optimise your marketing funnel and how you can get maximum traffic to your sites through a range of different ways.

    Hope this helps

Totally agree, I build a complete wordpress site after learning from Chris Farrell. His videos are fun and also engaging. If you do not know anything about code like me then this is a one stop shop as he will also show you traffic techniques.

There is lots to learn and this forum is a great resource. Use the search feature and read some of the articles posted. As for tutorials there are so many out there it is silly. Some are better than others of course and it depend on the specific techniques you expect to use.

Backlinks are still relevant and the number of quality links to a site remains one of the top ranking factors in Google. One of the best guides for making money via niche sites is Bring The Fresh and it's very comprehensive.

It was created by Kelly Felix and teaches a lot of good techniques for ranking sites. If you failed with SBI, you might succeed with Bring The Fresh.

thanks for all of the replies. I am having trouble with choosing a keyword. I am just confused by all of the different methods out there. Some say use tools like traffic travis and market samurai. Others say to use the google keyword planner and the number of competitor sites.

Is looking at the monthly search numbers and the number of competitor websites a good method for choosing a niche keyword?

If your talking about the Keyword Planner, the competition column is for Adwords not organic SERPs.

All those paid software tools are scraping search volume data from Google Keyword Planner.

since you are a newbie, becareful, do not be tricked by webinars that sells "PUSH A BUTTON" making money systems online. most of these things are the same bs. most of them claimed that they will provide you 'value', guess what, these 'values' can be found at no cost! just make time for yourself to learn from warriorforum and youtube (only tutorial videos). it worth a lot more than buying these short cut systems.

    hope that helps.

My best tip for success with affiliate marketing (or any type of online business) is to create a great value for your pages visitors by giving them content of great quality, eg. guides, top notch reviews, frequent updates of news etc. This will not only bring trust to your brand, but also attract backlinks if your content is unique and of high quality.

I agree with the advice here, read read read, try typing your questions in the search here and there is a very good chance they will be answered with all kinds of useful info, but remember when you are searching just because someone says they will give you xxxx$ for free take that with a pinch of salt
