If I create some pdf files related to my niche website, and let the index, can I get some SEO benefits too?

    Yes, your site will benefit from the link, the extent to which depends on how powerful the link. To gain as much link juice as you can from the link, build some backlinks to the pdf file.

      If you don't do anything with the pdf it's going to be a weak page.

      Really a pdf isn't much different than a regular HTML page, both can have page rank & rank in Google SERPs.

        Yeah, exactly. To rank higher and to gain any advantage from the pdf link, backlinks are needed to strengthen the link from the pdf file.

    You'll definitely get "some" boost, but if you put something of value in the PDF then it will be better than just throwing up a link on a forum etc. It's a good way, at least in my opinion, to entice and hook people in as you are giving them something for free.

    You would just be optimizing on page. It will not do anything for rankings if yo have no back-links, unless it is a tremendously weak keyword.

    i dont think you can get some boost with that pdf file if you r doing nothing with the pdf file then there wont be any change with the pdf file and normal HTML file

    I've found some PDF files online, indexed in Google and most had the keywords I was looking for. Of course, it was usually easier to find these files when actually restricting the search to only PDF files. Usually they don't show up on page one of search results. As to whether or not these files can help you get backlinks, it's doubtful but they will get rank for themselves. And, maybe the person reading them will have mercy on you and click through on the links to your main site.
