I want to learn SEO but don't know where to start.

Can someone recommend a course or ebook I can learn from?

The best platform to learn SEO is the internet so there are numerous video tutorials available in the internet you can join SEO forums. But as long as you won't work on practical live projects you can not understand so start working on your own site experiment and this way you will learn..

I would suggest you to go to moz.com. Here you can learn a lot about SEO and also download beginners guide to SEO in PDF form that is very helpful learning guide.

SEO in 2014 the same as it was 2004...

Fresh relevant content.. create new content on topics you know... only updates to the same advice I'd give a decade ago is to gain social media influence and distribute it there as well.

Start with NichePursuits.com. You will learn a lot about SEO and affiliate marketing and how to make money with niche sites. It's one of the few IM blogs I read regularly.

Smartpassiveincome will not teach you about SEO, in any actionable way, Moz will teach you technical terms and theory.

If you want to learn how to rank a site, stay away from google affiliate sites such as Moz and searchenginejournal, they are essentially little brothers of Google, and have you ever heard a little brother tell you how to **** his hot sister? Nah didn't think so.

Check out the user generated blogs, look at the respected members round here and see if they have blogs etc

Warrior forum is a great resource but don't trust any random SEO thread, there is way too much misinformation here.

I like backlinko.com, also see SEO-theory.com for the more technical insights, those are 2 of the only guys whose content I truly agree with, mine is also useful if you are starting to work for client.

Gaining an insight and understanding from sources like MOZ is by far the best advice.

SEO is not a "business in a box" its an industry and a daily changing and ever evolving one, that once you get to understand it a little becomes very addictive!

SEO doesn't just evolve around Google, yes Google plays a big part in SEO and how strategies are implemented, but its not the be all an end all of SEO, by any means.
