Submit a reconsideration request in Google webmaster tools... AFTER fixing the problems your website clearly has.

Just got back from a #BrightonSEO. I was given room 404 in the hotel I stayed at. Couldn’t find it anywhere!

You will have to give us more information.

What issues do you have on your website and why is Google saying your website is pure spam?

I think, your website is not fulfilling quality guidelines given here: support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35769?hl=en#3
Do necessary changes according Google's quality guidelines and then submit website for reconsideration.

Whatever your platform or type of infection, Google recommends the following steps:
    (1)Quarantine your Site
    -Take your site down immediately
    -Contact your web hoster.
-Change the passwords for all users and all accounts
    (2)Assess the Damage
    (3)Clean Up your Site
(4)Ask Google to Review your Site

You need to find the source of spam and eliminate it completely, do not submit a consideration request until you have tried everything to remove the spam and you are sure there is nothing left to improve.

It could duplicated content, low quality back links, so read the Google webmaster guidelines and be sure you have followed it before submitting a reconsideration request.

If you eliminate the source of spam, and then submit a reconsideration request, then your website will be removed from the penalization.

I'm pretty confident that low quality content (spun and copied articles) and low quality backlinks (spammy links) are the culprit. First off, you should audit your site to uncover all the on-page issues yout site has and then fix them.

Once you are done with that, plug your url into Ahrefs and look for spammy links in your link profile. Take down any spammy link you find and disavow the ones you can't remove.

First of all it will take time to remove your site from google spam list and bring back to normal positions, so have a patience and avoid any spam or un-natural seo activities.

Make the required changes as Google have suggested. remove all spam backlinks. you can use google disavow tool for this. If it is due to duplicate content then Re-write the quality content, avoid keyword stuffing and spam linking.

Keep doing ethical and white hat SEO Strategies. All the best

The main reason will be spam back links. Download you back link list from Google webmaster tool.

Check all the links quality manually.
    Remove all the spam links.
If you are not able to remove back links then create a list for them and submit in Disavow tool.
After dong all these activities then submit reconsideration request in Google.
Wait for the next penguin update.

Then your website can be visible again in SERPs.

Pure spam is the wost penalty to receive in my opinion, it means that not only did you get caught for massive spam links but overall your site is low quality as well.

Time to get those links removed first and then fix the on site stuff.

For someone who offers SEO services you sale, that is a huge load of excrement and has NOTHING to do with the "pure spam" manual penalty from Google!

Nope. Where are all you people getting this excrement from? The manual 'pure spam' penalty has NOTHING to do with links

The manual 'pure spam' penalty simply means your site sucks and a Google reviewer thinks that it is so bad, that it is of no use to the searcher if they return it in the search results.

If your site is spam, tell Google about it. Google takes spam extremely seriously, and investigates reported instances. You can file a spam report at http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/spamreport.
