        Hey There!

Guest posting is no longer as effective. Unfortunately it would be noted by the website as spam. Many sites also moderate their guest posting and blog commenting, so if the comment is in no relation to the post itself, it would be useless.

The best thing to do for SEO is always keyword and also good content.

        Good luck!

As far as my knowledge is concerned you can still do these activities if you are doing it for Branding or exposure purpose not for backlinks. Google updates has changed the way people doing these off-page activities so you can still continue doing this. While doing any off-page activity make sure you are posting on the sites which are relevant and are of your niche only.

Whether it is Guest Posting, Blog Commenting, Social Bookmarking, Directory Submission , Blog Submission, or Article submission just remember to post your content on the niche websites in the relevant category only, don't spam the sites.

I read the same blog post by Matt Cutts and my own interpretation was not that you could not do a guest blog post but that your main reason for doing the post should be to inform the readers rather than get a few cheap/free backlinks. So in that way, you should not be guest blogging with the idea that you will get SEO benefit. If you are going to guest blog, focus directly on your reader's needs and ask yourself what information would benefit those people most. Then you will write in depth content to help those people out. And, then of course you will get a backlink as author of that article. This type of in depth guest blog post is not usually penalized as it's considered valuable content by Google, rather than the cheaply spun guest blog posts which have been recently penalized.

Those types of backlinks are still effective but to varying degrees. Also, the effectiveness of any type of backlink depends on how you use it.

I get guest posters trying to post their spam to my sites all the time. I typically turn down 90% of them. Most are trying to post spun up bullshit or discuss some product they're trying to promote. typically something your average internet user could give two shits about. Bottom line is if you produce a high quality post for another person's site which pertains to your site and points back to your site you're good to go. Most major blogs you see where this is the case are not what Matt Cutts is talking about. He's talking about the 90% of the guest blogs being sent my way which is nothing of value to me or the customer.

Yes, all of them are effective, but only if you use quality and strong websites and if you build back links the right way.

I still believe that those strategies are effective now. It just that you have to use real name when doing blog commenting instead of keywords as Matt Cutts said in his video last year.

        You all are drunk.

Article submission and social bookmarking are still effective? and some of you are saying everything on his list is still effective. I had to do a double take at the dates on this thread. Its like someone bumped it from 2010

I actually stop doing all the techniques above. I am focusing more on content now.
It is kinda hard and it takes a lot of time and effort but I find it more interesting and challenging, yet fun.

I believe it is all still good. You need to restrict your keyword anchor text and use mostly brand name, URL or domain links now. Keyword anchor text has been determined to be spammers.

Don't listen to what Matt Cutts says, he is the propagandist for Google, he don't tell you anything but what Google WANTS US TO THINK.

All kind of activity are still useful, if you do it on proper way by following SE submission guide line and rules.
Generate back links only on quality and relevant sites, otherwise it have no meaning.

Well using guest blog posting and article submission is really not amicable or you as well as your site. I regularly see the webmaster video by Matt Cutt and there he clearly stats that google consider these two techniques in black hat SEO.

Well, from these you`ve listed "guest posting" still works as a 1st tier source of backlinks, but you have to post on quality websites (:

    Other techniques which works:

    1. own PBN
    2. own blogs network based on free web 2.0 (FCS Networker, Ranqwyz)
    3. to diversify sources of baclinks and boosting 1st tier - GSA SER with strict filters and good verified list
