About 3 months ago, I submitted a disvow request. I don't see those links in Google Webmaster Tools > Search Traffic > Links to Your Site anymore, but Majestic, Ahrefs and Open Site Explorer still take into consideration those links when evaluating my domain's quality, and show them as my backlinks.

1. Is Google really ignoring those spammy links now?
2. How can I update those three backlink explorers to stop considering those links?
3. Does this have any impact whatsoever?

The domain isn't strong yet, very young site, and I'm only now starting to work on it (was put on hold for a while).

And no, the spammy links weren't created by me.

If you disavowed the links you should be fine. The other back link counters are independent of Google so they may still find these back links even if Google disavowed them.

One thing to keep in mind though is that WMT does not show all your incoming backlinks either. Plus, you don't really know how those disavowed links are affecting your site unless you have been tracking rankings and saw a recovery since the disavow. If your site is fairly new and your domain name isn't really a brand, may be a better idea to start fresh with a new domain.

That's not TRUE AT ALL in regards to Penguin updates... Maybe if he/she was hit with something tougher like a manual penalty we'd be talking about "waiting for the update"

Penguin penalty's are lifted almost INSTANTLY once you balance out your link profiles' anchors. Now how does one do that you might ask? Well if I'm sitting with 20-30% anchors for an exact match keyword then I should probably dillute it right?

Correct! In doing so begin building MORE links with Brand/URL anchors to even out your link profile. If you look at the SERPS - Which are the only true representation of how Google works you will notice one thing in common.

Those that know how to balance a link profile IN MOST NICHES are the ones that stand the test of time. Now there are exceptions, I for one have a site with a 64% anchor ranking #1 for a term merely because in that SPECIFIC ALGO (Yes there are NICHE ALGOS) I can get away with it on this site.

There's never been a penalty for over BRAND/URL over-optimization and there never will be.

      Good Luck

You should care about what Google tool and not other tools, since you submitted a disavow request, then everything is fine.

    1. Disavowing adds the equivelant of a no-follow link to them so effectvely they are not passing page rank and will have no effect good or bad on your link profile.

    2. Backlink explorers such as OSE, Majestic, Ahrefs etc have their own algorithm and they are designed to pick up all the links. It matter not if they can see them or not as there bots have no relevance to your rankings.

    3. Disavowing is good if you constantly monitor your link profile. This shows that you are actively looking after your links. We have taken on clients before with horrendous link profiles and cleaned them up, disavowed links we could not remove and we have seen sites that have fallen from grace return up the serps.

That said, Google does like you to make an attempt at removing links yourself. If for instance you had hundreds or thousands of spammy or poor quality links and got a manual penalty then before they would allow you back into the serps they want to see you make a concerted clean up effort.

Don't worry about other tools as you haven't submitted disavow file to them. Let Google ingnore those links. You haven't mentions that you have got manual actions or Penguin penalty. If it is penguin than you will get good news in some time now.

Only worry about what Google counts, it doesn't matter what ahrefs show. The links are still there, that's why they show them. As long as Google is not counting them that's all that matters.

You should think about Google tools not other tools. You have no need to tense as you already submitted disavow file to them. I hope you will get a good news in short time.

Disavowing links doesn't do anything. So don't expect some magical transformation by using the tool. You are only helping Google identify low quality links that they'll likely hurt your rankings over with the coming Penguin update.

Disavowing links isn't deleting the links which is why they still show up in the other checkers. If you want the links to not count anymore than you need to remove them.
