Not much you can except using the google disavow tool.

As above, there's little you can do but use the disavow tool as soon as you see the offending links arise.

Well essentially those are all REACTIVE, now let's talk about how to be proactively protecting your site from Negative SEO.

If someone has simply just ordered a fiverr gig of 200k links for negative SEO... (There really is one)
most likely they are going to try to not only trigger a velocity filter, but also over-optimize your anchor text.

Seeing as I run a lot of spam tests in heavy negative SEO niches... (Checkout CCarter's SERPWoo video about replica Gucci niche it is insane!)

What tends to happen is if the list is really old and bad it won't even have much of an effect on you whether over-optimization/velocity...

Now when you're playing with people have done it a time or two you have to be wary to check your link profiles on a daily basis. There's been many times when I've had to build 50k links for brand/url anchors only to dilute the over-optimization. I was able to save that site for about 3 months before it finally just lost so many links and collapsed.

Now how do we protect ourselves from negative 301's? Well this is something you really can't protect yourself from. Especially if someone is cloaking that 301'd domain you might not even know you have one pointed at you at one time.

The point is really low links in your link profile is wonderful. I love ranking sites with as LITTLE links as possible. But when you're starting with 300-400 links and you get a quick burst of links and can be toppled down. Keep yourself on your toes and if you notice quick bursts of links you better pray they don't know what they're doing.

Keep your KEYWORD ANCHORS low and make sure you continue building brand/url links to even everything out. I like to do this with social properties and other do/no-follow properties to stay as stable as possible.

    Good Luck!

If you know who is doing the negative SEO attack, you can alert Google to it. However, usually not that much proof.

Just go on the offense by using disavow tool and strengthening your good SEO (high page rank, credible backlinks as well as best on page content).

That disavow tool isn't going to save a ranked page.

Narking out comp. to Google is a silly idea, Google could care less about an online rant. Besides, prove someone else built negative links (not going to happen).

Do you know anyone that spent time on disavowing links and went through a Penguin refresh with it?

John Muller at Google has said the algorithm needs to be refreshed in order to see an effect from the disavow tool - which they say suggests to Google to nofollow the links.

LOL the last time I listened to something Google told me it became "guests posts are now bad bros..." I'll be sure to believe what I see in the SERPS because they CAN'T lie.

Well it's not that I believe them as much as they are getting a lot of heat from people and SEO's during Google hangouts. I'm just saying if Penguin refreshes and hundreds or more websites don't see any changes in the serps I think people are gonna be bitching at Google and their crew endlessly. At this point it might even be easier for them to let sites disavow. The next refresh may answer the question though - if disavow tool works.

So your saying Google nofollows followed links by request?

Like I said before, your link sculpting & my money is on Google not helping you sculpt external links.

Disvow tool will work in the sense, It won't show those kind of links to google. So there won't be many problem because of those links.

What happens if you disavow a GOOD LINK PROFILE... You're going to start opening a can of worms with Google. But... essentially everytime you disavow you give Google your battle plans. Saying hey, well these links DEFINITELY ranked me... Please nerf this site and completely devalue it...

Google aims to turn SEO's against each other as well as neutralize link platforms that are continuing to work.

The only option you have is to keep a check on the backlinks of the site on a regular basis and incase of any suspicious activity, report the links in the disavow sheet ASAP.

      1. On the Webmaster Tools home page, click the site you want.
      2. On the Dashboard, click Search Traffic, and then click Links to Your Site.
      3. Under Who links the most, click More.
      4. Click Download more sample links. If you click Download latest links, you'll see dates as well.

Agreed. But the problem is that Google disavow tool takes a long time for actual implementation to take place.

Not much. If someone wanted to destroy your site, he can really do it.

This is rare in most niches. If you do happen to get that lucky ******* as your competitor, then worry about it by then. It depends on what type of negative SEO they will do so adjust as needed. If it's all links, Google Webmaster Tools + spreadsheet + Disavow tool. Be sure you have a list of your good links, too. It will make things faster
