Hi Folks

I have a 4 year old website which gets good traffic and has a plethora of backlinks that have built up over the years but ive decided id like a relaunch and rebrand.

Ive already picked the new domain and want to get as much information before i do anything

My questions are, if i redirect the old domain to the new domain will the backlinks PR and traffic follow it?

what other processes are important in this case?

cheers

Bertie

301 redirecting will not only send visitors to the correct page but will also tell search engines that the page has permanently moved.

If you use 301 redirect and submit a change of address on Google webmaster tools, then the link juice, page rank and ranking will be passed to the new domain.

You don't need to worry if you redirect from old to new domain. 301 permanent redirect is very helpful in your case.

Actually that's not correct, everything follows with a redirect. The good and the bad.

What you are trying to achieve won't work with a 301 redirect. Fix the links you don't like and don't start over. Starting over is just a bad idea. If anything keep your old brand, and start a new one entirely all over. Rebranding and 301'ng won't help with what you are looking to achieve.

After you have applied redirection, there shouldn't be any issue. Ensure that 301 redirection is applied on a page level though.

301 redirection resolves all the problem. Loosing of backlinks will not be a factor. Initial stage there might be some changes with the ranking but with time it will again be revamped. So no worried at all.
