Great article. Especially the part about banner blindness. There was a study done which showed the hotspots on the screen and how to direct the attention of somebody to the CTA. For instance if an arrow points to something, then people are drawn to that. You nailed it on the head there.

The position of the CTA is also critical, yes above the fold, but where? on the left or on the right? I would say on the left, just below where people expect the content to be. As you said banner blindess happens at the top because people expect to see an ad there.

You are right, I have noticed a better convertion on the left.
