Can I hire any writers ...

Have you had any luck working out a deal with writers? I have this idea. Is this out of a question?

I could pay 5c per word, but with merchandise not with cash. I have $50,000 worth of items that can be sold for $3 to $7 each on eBay. (proof available)
For a 1000 word article or a blog post I would rather give away $50 worth of goods than pay $20 cash. (I think the going price for HQ writing is $10 per 400 - 500 words). What I need? (Long Island related) articles for articles.li ; how-to articles for how.ee ; golf related articles for golf.gy ; kids (parenting articles) for baby.ee and kids.ee ; and seo related for seo.hn

Do you think I could work out this deal? Where to look?

I am targeting big keywords with EMD's and I can afford to wait for ages for rankings. These are broad monthly searches.

    Hard to say, some people might be willing to trade their services for stuff they could sell. But I suspect that a lot of people might prefer the money.

    But its hard to say, I have seen some bartering arrangments work out well for both parties.

    It's possible that you could find a writer that will trade services for products, but your search may be difficult. Most writers sell their services because it is a job and they need upfront cash to live, and not to get free stuff.

    you'll struggle to find good writers who will agree to this, after all - they are trying to be professionals.

    this would be like offering to pay a restaurant or bar tab with goods - not going to happen

    The best thing to do is look around and send out some emails and ask. I'm sure there are some writers that are okay with it, it just might take some time to find one.

    I don't see why not, but it probably won't pan out to be a long-term arrangement (seeing as how most writers need money— not goods —for things like bills and food.)

    That being said, might as well throw an offer out there and see who bites Good luck!

    once you have hired them. I don't see why not, but it
    will definitely be a pain trying to manage all of the items.

    I think you will have a difficult time finding anyone who will "work for goods."

    Your proposal causes the author to work twice to earn less;
    The author must first write your content. Then they must sell your product to get their money. While they are listing the product and monitoring the auction they loose the time to write another project so they loose the income from that as well.

    Nope, not a win for the author at all.

    I would be willing to trade one off gigs for merchandise or services if it was something I really wanted. Like if someone said "review my PS3 game and you can keep the review copy" I would be good with that. But if someone said "Write me 1000 articles and I will give you 500 tubes of tennis balls that you can sell on ebay" I would tell them to take a hike.

    I definitely thinks its doable. There are some people who write for fun and they have other outside interest.

    As Amanda said, I would just email some people and go from there.

    Basically people need money to pay bills and live. Most people wouldn't go for it. Having to sell it on Ebay for cash would not only cost them money but would be like having to work for it twice.

      Yes, but they'll make an extra income. Instead of getting paid $10 per article they get goods that can be sold for $25. Of course the extra work is required. The items are unique, only me and my partner sell them. Not tennis balls, items are small 100g (3oz) would cost $500. No storage required, items can be shipped in ordinary envelope by air mail. If this makes any difference.

      I was thinking
      1) There has been a flood of writers from asia, so the prices are down and I had an impression the supply exceeds demand. Thus take any offer you get.
      2) I can pay $50 (in goods) per 1000 words, that's above the average pay.
      3) Long term contract possible, if the produced work is of high quality.

      Drawbacks
      Ebay store needed ($49 per month, listing fees 5c per item). Shipping of physical goods required, probably not a good idea to ship from India or Philippines. So it would suit US, UK writers, but they are probably already paid well (in cash). Of course I realize that I can't find a professional ghostwriter on these conditions. I do need one.

      I have ideas for a few fiction books,too. I have already written the first draft of several chapters, which basically need to be edited and rewritten, since English is my third language and it's just one of 5 languages I can speak. I can read/understand 8 languages. I am actually better off writing in English than in my native language. But I want my articles to be professional, not just readable.
      English grammar (fixed word order and prepositions instead of cases) is actually very easy compared to Estonian, Russian, Finnish or ... try Hungarian. Nouns can have up to eighteen cases! So instead of learning one word you have to memorize 18! Estonian language has free word order, it is possible to compose the same sentence in 24 different ways using the same 4 words in different order. (Good for spinning articles, huh?). Actually only 2 or 3 out of 24 ways would be preferred and used based on intuition and experience by natives. Use some strange, although correct way, to form a sentence and you will immediately be identified as a foreigner.

    You can get writers. Writing is a hobby for many out there, and they won't mind getting merchandise instead of cash. Post a few wanted ads and see. Your sure to get a few writers. Why don't you post in craiglist and see?
