I think the biggest mistake is make useless videos.

Yes, I absolutely agree with you!

Aside from making quality videos, do your keyword research. Optimize the tags, titles, descriptions and thumbnails. Find some long tail keyword searches people are using and include them in a paragraph in the description of your video. If the competition is low, then YouTube videos can rank on Google with ease.

This is absolutely wrong. (Sorry to be a bit harsh here man, but it's one of the most common mistakes I see when IMers turn to YouTube).

OK, so I make quite a bit of money off of YouTube. The most important tip that I could give to anyone who wants to earn money from the site as well is: do NOT spend a single second wondering about SEO.

Why? Because the YouTube search engine and, more importantly, the YT recommendations are based on viewing patterns and history, not on SEO.

Instead, create engaging content that you know people are going to want to watch. Optimally, select a niche you love -- fashion, gaming, food, travel, whatever -- and share your passion with the world. Be yourself, be creative and, most importantly, be prolific. Most popular YouTubers upload at least a video a day and that should be your goal as well if you want to make it big.

Thanks man, that's a great perspective. The technical part when creating videos can be easily learned but not everyone can be creative on a constant basis.

They fail because cracking the YouTube nut, so to speak, is a lot of hard work. It's not as easy as making a video, putting it up and lots of people seeing it. You have to market the video, build a channel and build a following.

Unless of course you hit the jackpot with one insanely viral video but I wouldn't count on that for building a channel.

Video content needs to be really good, proper optimization of video is also important, use right tags and description.

The biggest mistake is producing low quality youtube video and not optimizing it for your target audience.

If you niche a channel , name the channel about the niche and link your videos in a silo type way you have a better chance.
You still have to make decent quality videos though - there are loads of junk ones and its not surprising nobody watches them.

The biggest mistake on youtube is choosing quantity over quality.

They just upload non sense and irrelevant videos.

People should realize that eventhough it's a free video sharing they should also be mindful of the content.

One of the biggest mistake they do is - bad keyword research, no competition analysis and bad editing of their videos

Most of the time people don't use proper tagging and just because of this reason many of good videos don't rank in you tube..
