hello

i'm making a few new videos, and I would like to know if it's better to

A) have a voice over that explains/talks the viewer through i'm doing or
B) can i get away with just showing (content is pretty self explanatory in my opinion) or
C) can i just add a few speech bubbles/ subs here and there (which i think is annoying and distracting)

so what experience have you guys got, which works better in your opinion.

also in light of a recent video hickjack. I would like to add a copyright statement (copyright 2016 to my site) within my video at the bottom of screen. is this a good idea? it doesn't distract in my view.

    I'd go for A..

Because, in my opinion, there will always be people who need a little extra hand holding.

And yes, add copyright to your videos if you want to but I think branding looks friendlier..

You can never assume that all your visitor will have the same abilities to understand what you are trying to explain. So the best option in every case will be the "A".

Always option A. Even if the content is self explanatory ... adding ur tone & views can help the convey the message in better way & increase the credibility.

    ok, thanks for the replies.

i guessed 'A' would be the best option.
(problem for me is i'm awful at voice recording, so looks like i'm grabbing a family member to do it...the joys)

i have a logo and website address at the start and end of my videos but
i've decided to add a copyright throughout my video now as it's possible someone could edit out the start/end and replace with their own!

Good call on going with the first option.

As far as the copyright issue, you could also just add a lower thirds section with your logo and website address. The lower thirds would remain on your video the whole time. I inserted an example below of one I created for a marketing video I created.

For what it's worth, I personally like videos with either a voice over or someone in front of the camera talking. It adds a bit of a human touch. It also holds my interest. If you don't like the sound of your voice, you can always find voice over talent on Fiverr.

i agree i like a video with a human in front and it also really stamps your mark on the video.

but i'm not ready to put my mug on a video yet. fortunately my vids look ok so far with just product and hands.

(current vids have voice overs which work fine, it just adds more time/work adding voice overs)

i'm not quite prepared to trust fiverr yet, i'll use a family member for meantime.

a little off topic, is there anything i can do about my voice? i've recorded vidoes with tv presenters in background, other people and they all sound the same on/off the camera - they all sound ok/normal but my voice is really deep/unclear (i thought it was just the camera making my voice sound bad) but this is a problem i've got to deal with talking in general

any advice...love get better/clearer voice and then be able to record my own voice overs.

Most (if not all of )the videos I watch, I will move on to different video on the same subject if there is no one speaking. The music or someone just typing on a notepad on the screen isn't in my opinion a very professional video. A HUMAN voice is much better.
And I've got a deep voice as well and my microphone I think I spent all of $20 on, I guess I lucked out on the clarity of such a cheap mic.

The way I'm doing my YouTube is I record my screen and just walk people through what I'm doing. That or a talking head where you're literally talking to the camera works really well.

Experiment with the positioning of your microphone.

I used to use a headset mic and if I put it near my mouth the results were "so-so" I found lowering it level with my jaw-line made a huge difference.

Option A. Voice over would give more engagement.

i'd test all of them and see which ones have the highest audience retention rate.

then i'd only make videos that are similar in the style that earned me the highest audience retention rate.

you can find your attention rate by going to:

your channel> video manager (on the left side look for and click 'analytics') then click on audience retention..

    best of luck,

    Hello there,

If I were you, I'd go for the option A. HOWEVER, make sure that the sound quality is clear and loud enough that your viewer hears you well.

It's fine to add a copyright statement at the bottom of the video. Just make it small enough so that it doesn't distract your viewers while watching the video.

    Good luck!

I would advise you go for whiteboard videos.

Many whiteboard videos without voice do incredibly well online as long as they have a music background and there is text to explain

Explainer video rock in my opinion. Will millions of views and thousands of comments be wrong

I find it better to make my own videos . Then I will put the website and my name into the video so if it is taken and moved around I get free advertising. Hope it helps.

Seriously, use your voice in your marketing.

The more familiar they become with you, the more time they'll give you.

Also, try and get yourself on camera too...

This will further enhance your relationship with your viewers and build a stronger bond over time as well.

Hope this helps anyway, buddy :-)

You don't HAVE to talk yourself in the video.

Simply write the text and get a voiceover artist to make the audio for you. Then sync it with the video and you're done.

Voiceovers are pretty affordable nowadays and there are loads of decent guys/girls doing great work.

I would go with option A. If you are comfortable enough, you can have a little window of yourself in bottom of video while your doing voice over. Be yourself and it doesn't have to be perfect. I don't want to sit and watch someone acting like a robot reading the script.

I use a combination of tools in my video creation and ALWAYS use my own voice when recording. A lot of my videos are also screen recordings with a PIP (Picture in Picture) of me in one of the corners as I illustrate what I am presenting.

I actually just finished up a few hours worth of video training that demonstrates how I create and rank the videos I use.

Here's the link to the article. Hopefully it could be of some help to you:
