Are Podcast still working?

I am shock by the enormous amount of podcasts that were launched this year all over the world, its just crazy, in my TL in Twitter, a lot the users I follow have launched their own podcasts, about a wide variety of products, niches and topics, Ive literally seen Podcasts about everything from Apple products (That really, I think there are more people with Apple podcasts than people listening those podcasts), to shoes, pets, politics, gardening, etc.

I know Podcasts were an amazing breakthrough a few years ago, they really revolutionized the format and transform in a quite big competition for radio stations, in fact a lot of marketing gurus even predicted radio was going to dissapear and be completely replaced by Podcasts, which evidently hasnt happened so far.

Seen all this jungle, I cant avoid to ask my self if Podcasts are really working now, I mean, are people really listening to them? Or are we just broadcasting our content to the empty audiences?.

I know there are some quite big Podcasts out there with big audiences, but lets be honest, those are the few.

I believe we have over exploited the format, people are now tired about it, and we cant blame them, its quite annoying to came across a new Podcast every single day.

What do you think about all these? Are Podcast still working? Are you still broadcasting a Podcast? If you are, please share your results with us.

As popular as they are, they're still incredibly powerful in creating a platform to direct people to and to give content to your audience. So yes, they are, just do them.

While I agree the podcast industry is getting noisy, it is no way near to the amount of blog posts, photos on Instagram and videos uploaded to YouTube... the scene will keep on getting bigger and fill more niches as it goes on.

Friends of mine see fantastic results from podcasting, more so than other forms of content they are producing. It is authentic and typically results in higher quality content than many other forms of content (thanks to it being conversational).

Definitely worth starting. Everything is test and learn.

I wouldnt compare photos or videos with podcasts, the firsts are user generated content that usually dont have a lot of production, people just produce them and upload them, Podcasts on the other hand neccesarely have more production, you need to edit them and even planning them before that, defining the niche and creating a plan are not usual decisions that people make when they upload content.

I understand however when you say that Podcast are still working, im sure they do for a lot of people, my doubt was about the thousand and thousand of entrepreneurs or marketers that are launching podcast everyday, I would like to hear from them to see what kind of results are they having.

Podcasts are very powerful if you can grab someone's attention quickly and assure them that it's worth listening to you for 30mins - 2 hours.
So you really need to add value in a specific area/niche to make your podcast unique. Or you could use your podcast to do interviews - to network with other bloggers, podcasters etc. so you share eachothers audiences.
Or you could interview relatively famous people (starting with relatively unknown people and working your way up) this way you can get followers off your guest's profile rather than having to offer any real vaue yourself.
I hope this helps. If you want some motivation, just watch the early episodes of London Real and the newer ones. You will see the reward if you are persistent and offer quality content - Best London Real Episodes
