Windows Phone was heavily marketed by both Nokia and Microsoft, but failed.

Years ago there were three major mobile OS platforms competing for usage share: Android, iOS, and Windows Phone. Not gonna go off-topic, but as a summary Microsoft stopped active development of the platform in 2017, and eventually stopped releasing devices.

Despite its aggressive marketing against competing brands, it failed to sell. Was it because Microsoft was too ambitious? Would social media be effective if Windows Phones were sold today?

Didn't the Windows phone have Windows as it's OS?
    Enough said...?

Microsoft YEARS ago pigeon holed themselves into the PC market - and then into the Gamer Console market. I am left to think they simply do not, or wished not to get into the business of big data. Android / Google and Apple.. Without question both are BIG players in DATA and the products are the effect of that Data. Microsoft, I don't think plays the same game.

Look into the not to distant future at Googles cloud based gaming system ( Stadia is the name ) that will require no console.. you can literally play anywhere, and the GAP between the tethered Microsoft mentality and allowing Data to dictate the Form is very clear.

I think there is already some signs that Microsoft may fall. A hit at the Gaming sector level, and at some point it will happen someone will have bigger and better in the OS department and It will be all over. I honestly believe it is just a matter of time. but I have been saying that for years now LOL

( PS. what exactly does this have to do with "Offline"? )

No, not too ambitious. The competition simply out-marketed them. Just my opinion.

Doubt it considering the original Windows OS was a new offline product at the time and todays' phones would not be a new offline product regardless of social media.

MS claim to fame ($$$) was creating a new product and using its leverage in a new market. Beast from the east and all that. Gates has said many times.. he never had any idea that the MSOS (MSDOS) would be what it is today.

The OS was indeed good but not marketed well. I own a Nokia windows 1025 and the camera quality is exceptional.

Microsoft are now back big time.
The Surface laptops are the most expensive, exclusive devices on the market right now.
They will be back with the rumoured Surface phone.
