What is the best social media software and is it safe to use?

I've been curious about using software to build targeted groups of people up, but I'm a little worried about it. I've been told that this type of software can backfire and have you in a trouble with the big social media sites. Has anyone used this type of software? If so what would you recommend? I really want to make this work, because I've been afraid to do social media for a while, but I feel this is something I have to get on board with if i want to grow what I'm doing.

I used to use followliker and recently jarvee for twitter and instagram.
IG are too strict for bots now so I tried jarvee for free on twitter only as I needed to unfollow people.
