A new article on Search Engine Journal reports that Twitter just announced an upcoming paid feature. It's called Super Follow, and it gives users the ability to monetize their content.

Twitter offers a first look at a new feature named Super Follow, which gives users access to premium content for a monthly fee. There's also another new feature on the way which looks similar to Facebook Groups. Twitter finished off its recent Analyst Day by revealing its top three long-term goals.

Super Follow - Monetizing Your Tweets

Soon, users will be able to monetize tweets using Twitter's new Super Follow feature. Users use Super Follow to keep tabs on their favorite content creators and receive perks like:
  • A supporter badge
  • Subscriber-only newsletters
  • Exclusive content
  • Deals & discounts
  • Community access

Rumors have been circulating for a while that Twitter was considering introducing a subscription-based product and Super Follow seems to be the result of that. This is the first time Twitter has offered a paid feature.

Twitter Communities

This new feature seems to be similar to Facebook Groups. Via Communities, Twitter users can join a discussion about a specific topic. When you compose a tweet, you'll get the option to share it to a Community you belong to. The company will release more information about both Super Follow and Communities features soon.

Twitter's Long Term Goals

Twitter specified a list of goals it hopes to achieve by 2023 (mDAU means monetized daily active users):
  • Double development velocity by the end of 2023, which means doubling the number of features shipped per employee that directly drives either mDAU or revenue.
  • Reach at least 315 million mDAU in Q4 2023, which represents a ~20% compound annual growth rate from the base of 152 million mDAU reported in Q4 2019, which was the most recently reported mDAU when Twitter first announced this ambition in March of 2020.
  • At least double total annual revenue from $3.7 billion in 2020 to $7.5 billion or more in 2023.
