Converting Instagram engagements into purchases

I find IG to be quite a problematic platform, partly because it's so hard to manage links, but also because users don't seem to want to engage beyond a like, comment or follow.

I recently setup FB biz dev and was tinkering with it and decided to boost a post. The post text has a shortlink to learn more about the image in the post, but also a prize draw which requires the user to follow and comment. So 1.6k likes later and no comments, and no one has bothered checking out the links either.

This is not anything new since when we did influencer endorsements, the outcome was pretty much the same. 10-20k views and 1-2 clickthrough but no one converts. There was one influencer who did convert (50%) but her following was a bit cultish too.

You might say the product is bad, but it sells very well and we don't have any issues otherwise.

So how do I crack IG? how do I get users to convert.

That's the nature of Instagram - like, sometimes a follow, and when you're lucky, you get a follow.

Just because it sells very well despite you saying it as a "bad product" doesn't mean it will still sell in the future.

As You already knew people come to Facebook or Instagram to get connected with their friends and family. So It should be better if you try to develop a relationship with your audience and then later on you can target them with your product or services...
