This is the greatest thing to happen in a long while. Unless, I guess, if you don't like freedom of speech then you might be really upset. For an alternative try Gab or Parler, for alternatives to youtube try rumble and bitchute

    I'm skeptical.

    https://www.vox.com/recode/23041717/...r-kafka-column

He paid 38 percent more than Wall Street thought it was worth.

Twitter is only approx 2 years 'younger' than Facebook. They both started up in the early 2000's -- but today, Facebook has 2,910,000,000 usrs and Twitter only has 436,000,000

Twitter has spent years trying to get more people to sign up, with little to show for it -- which is why they stopped reporting monthly user numbers back in 2019.

And, let's face it, as online marketers, we are well aware of the number of fake / bot profiles on Twitter that likely boost their already comparatively low user numbers. And a fraction of those accounts are in regular use. And apparently only approximately 1% of them have more than 10K followers.

Twitter is little league, when it comes to social media platforms:

    https://www.statista.com/statistics/...mber-of-users/

And the reason Twitter has struggled to make a decent profit all these years is BECAUSE it is a free, ad-supported business that doesn't have enough users to make it attractive to advertisers.

And if you've tried advertising on Twitter, yes, it sucks!

Here's another data point: Google pulled in $257 billion last year, Facebook pulled $117 billion...

But Twitter did just $5 billion.

Which is why Google is worth $1.7 trillion, Facebook $583 billion, and Twitter only $36 billion (Elon Musk over paid!).

It would take a MASSIVE shake up to get anywhere close to Facebooks userbase. Everyone has heard of Twitter, it's not new and exciting, unless they start giving away free beer, there is unlikely to be a sudden big rush over to the platform.

Elon Musk says he's going to reduce moderation on the platform (for which, he probably means he is downsizing Twitter's employee numbers, for a small saving). And he intends allowing 'more free speech' -- which some might applaud, until all those umoderated beheading videos, racist abuse, and paedophile groomers start clogging up the legal intray.

I'm no one to second guess Elon Musk, but I don't see anything in his CV that makes him a better candidate for success at this than Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Page, Sergey Brin, or even Jack Dorsey (who must be laughing his way to the beach right now!).

Based on the law of inertia, Twitter could probably continue along its current trajectory, and continue its current 'success' and revenue, relatively safely -- it's a known entity, it's relatively unique, and has a good brand.

But any changes will inevitably shake things up. They always do, especially on social media platforms.

My personal opinion is that he has bought a pup and will live to regret it.

Are you afraid he is going to make changes that effect you? Do you have all your eggs in one basket and at risk of loosing your entire income ?

He just purchased the company but it will still take time to implement changes. Considering all his other projects. How much time is he going to devote to Twitter ? Elon would be better off fixing his Tesla crashing issues then worry about social media.

VOX is left leaning - they present 'explanatory news' - usually in the way THEY want you to 'understand' it.

I've always viewed Musk as an outlier - a visionary...but his successes have not been by accident. I don't think Twitter could be worse than it has been in the past year or two.

The fuss from Twitter employees reveals the objections they have to 'free speech' -

Several Twitter employees expressed serious concerns and fear over Musk's $44 billion acquisition of the company including a prominent worry that Musk would undo censorship mechanisms they had worked to implement over the years, The Washington Post reported Monday.
    And my favorite;

In reaction to news of the sale, some employees shared tear-filled emojis and memes of emotional breakdowns. In some cases, employees were "too in shock to speak" about the company's future.
May be time to clean house and let some of these drama queens find a new job. Or maybe move Twitter's headquarters? I think it will be fun to watch.

Yesterday 5/6 Elon released his "Plans" ( financial plans ) for Twitter... the line item that caught my eye - "Other revenue would come from businesses such as data licensing."

When you look at Elon's overall holdings Be it Tesla or SpaceX or Solar, or AI etc There are some very direct paths from product to "Data" Very much like Google or Amazon or Apple.. you get the idea. The "Product" either produces the Data, or the product is a by product of the Data some examples would be the iPhone or Teslas Cars that are products that collect data... and Google Maps would be a great example of a Product that is the result of data.

So specifically with Elon there is this clearly defined path between his cars and say starlink, that is a result of space X - and all of these things are very interconnected in need and necessity - with the far flung "Goal" of getting to mars.

So the cars are very good at collecting spacial data as well as behavior data... These data sets are very much a part of driving a car or landing a rocket - but they are missing the "Human" element.

Throw "Optimus Robot" into this... and Elon has no clear path to language... a verbal and written data set - you then ask... what is TWITTER? and the answer is, Language for days.

Why is Google search the #1 search in the world? I would suggest it is the understanding of the language a user uses to find what it is they are looking for. Google has this VAST language data set.

If you look at Elons broad focus of things... An AI robot would mitigate risk ( Mars ) and I am sure a host of many other things.. the only thing lacking with AI is the language barrier. how we as humans interact with AI.

Anyone that understands the current state of AI, understands it is a very one sided process.. it is very pre determined data in, to get a result.

AI that is based in language to understand data in, and to produce data out... that is next level AI and it is THIS that Twitter brings to the table for someone like Elon.

As much as "Free Speech" is a thing... MARS is at the very core of his decision to buy Twitter.

  • Prahblem we gaht with anywan definin' freedom of speech is ...

how much do you trooly gain by disagreein'?

As I undahstand stuffs, Twittah is patrolled 69/7 by lesbian hookup squads who wanna experiment on YOUR CHILD'S BRAIN so they can crochet finah ceremonny winnin' outfits for umselves, or dispense with frickin' tofu as a substitoot for beef.

(There may be psi-powahed reptile/voodoo Genital Shrink beings in the mix also. I believe a creepy guy in my buildin' may be one -- less'n he jus regulahly frickin' weird.)

Frankly, the way the world gowin', you gotta prepare for anythin'.

As a gal been banned here twice for naht conformin' to WF rools, I would wondah what monstrosities might be unleashed by a global opinion spewah sans evry boundry dommed by a guy with facial bloat ishoos.

tbh, I undahstand the words I gotta say here to get muh stoopid self banned in an instant.

An' sumtimes I sneak 'em in.

But such wisdom of self-appointed smarts may naht be available to the next generayshwaahn of assholes -- pertickulah if'n they encouraged naht to care as they unleash umselves c/o no global SAY WHAT YOU WANNA platform.

I realise WF is specifics oriented rathah than town hall whatevah the guy said central.

As he moisturized till he dripped.

So what is the purpose of a mod, evah?

An' who squads up the mods?

It is natchrl always to figure a fine line between inspiration an' dissent.

Bcs both can so easily be framed as the othah.

Kinda like a Mothah Daughtah Dance Troupe bound for frickin' oblivion simply bcs DNA.

Hey, so I playin' clean here for now, bcs it suits my perhapsitood of exotic flaps.

    Such is the 20s, sweetiepoppets.

Huh -- they even the twenny 20s.

The deal is on hold because Elon wants to double check the number of spam accounts. Twitter says it's less than 5%.

If they know that number, it seems that they would have a way of knowing which accounts are fake and deleting them. 5% of 300 million accounts or so is 15,000,000 fake accounts. That's a bunch and most of them are up to no good so why not get rid of them?

      Mark

And now after Twitter let Musk Troll them and their own employees they are saying we can force you to complete the deal. Force a billionaire?

Doubtful. Make him pay the Troll Penalty more likely.

Twitter's real problem is no way out. The troll counts - the fake accts have been outed. The claim of 5% fake accts is laughable to anyone using twitter.

If Musk ends up owning twitter, most of the employees would be out of a job (and many should be)....Twitter will go private and my guess is any censoring that occurs will be far more even handed than it has been.

If Musk doesn't end up owning Twitter - the platform has been openly revealed as unfair, a mass of fake accts and bots....and the company will have to clean up its act if it wants to survive.

For the public, seems like a win win.

Is Musk the same guy trying to stop the kid on Twitter from tracking his jet?

Twisted billionaires do run companies I guess. Some sell pillows.

So I guess Elon can troll himself on his own company possibly.

He made a perverted indecent joke about YouTube Founder just recently.

No one winning in my opinion.

Shareholders will if they get that promised share price since Elon personally tanked the share price since then with his Tweets.

I personally think he would end up being arrested for using Twitter illegally in some way. (already being investigated by SEC.)

The SEC is investigating Elon Musk for the late disclosure of his stake in Twitter which allowed him to accumulate a large amount of shares at a lower price than he might otherwise have paid, the Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday.

you blame Musk for not wanting someone tracking his flights and making his flight patterns public? I don't.

You clearly dislike Elon Musk - but that has nothing to do with the sale itself.

The SEC is a govt agency....so....
