Recommended Social Network Site Builder

Hello All,

I have a business idea that's been stirring in my head for a few years but tucked it aside due to others going similar way but they havent moved forwards and figured I should.

Can anyone recommend a social network building system please? I am building more of a business network as opposed to outright social so needs that clean official feel but guess thats just how I would build it rather than the program. I am looking for people to be able to submit profiles and others to be able to search these etc. I am looking for a small, simple platform to test this idea before pulling out the stops and spending some bigger cash. Ideally it would be scalable for this reason but anything that gets me working for now would be great.

I would rather not wordpress as have enough to learn at moment and happy using html/php templates if required.

Many thanks in advance.

Colin

I have a social network site Welcome To SomethingSocial.net You can join for free and see how it works. The program I use is PES PRO you can get it here PES Pro It is a bit of a pain to customize unless you are very good at code. The program itself has the best features I can find.

I think this is what you were asking for. But you may be looking for a actual program that you can run a social site with. In that case sorry I misunderstood. Also in that case you are best to use Joomla or Wordpress they have the best FREE alternatives to a social network. I know you say you don't want to learn WordPress but there really isn't that much to learn. The basics with most programs are the same as WP You may consider a good host that makes it easy to load all of the content management systems that way all you have to do is login and set it up. I recomend domain1connect.com – Web Hosting services for you I am partial I do own it. It has a great back end that allows you to one click load almost any of the most popular content management solutions.

Well I hope I helped some and sorry this looks like a big pitch for my sites it is not intended to be.

If you do find a good one could you post it here so I can add it to my list of resources? Thanks Good Luck

It really depends on exactly which features you're looking for, but phpFox is definitely one of the more stable. And of course there's BuddyPress which is very popular but you said you aren't interested in WordPress.
