Pinterest has lots of female traffic so you are better of promoting things that you think might be popular with them eg cooking, household stuff, weight loss etc. You can pin a photo and link to your site as they don't allow affiliate links and pre-sell your stuff there. I have great success using that method with Amazon products.

Well, Pinterest could be a powerful traffic generator for a website or blog. But the content you submit or upload there must stand out and shout out to the passers by. You have to upload weird, shocking, beautiful, quality, meaningful, inspirational, captivating pictures relevant to your marketing niche. You don't necessarily need infographics, charts, diagrams, mind maps or something of the kind. Put your at least 10 images per day, write catchy SEO optimized descriptions for your pins and pin boards with the goal to pique as much curiosity as possible but attract targeted traffic, not just those looking for some fun. In addition to pinning your content and uploading pictures, repin your competitors and comment on their pins to interact with others and get noticed, bring their attention to your business. Follow other people and communicate with those who follow you. Don't pin your website only - you will look like a spammer, don't link your uploaded pins to the same place either. Pin quality content from multiple websites you enjoy on the web for the sake of enriching your boards with more value. Great Pinterest technique is collaboration boards. Invite people to participate in a project together and boost your fan base.

Like others said, share quality stuff, first setup your profile with quality content and pins..
I would recommend in start instead promoting your website just repin others pinners pins, setup at least 5-10 boards with quality stuff..

Then join some contributor boards and if you find some good one's they can be source of instant traffic, but first your profile should be professional and good looking, only then you can get invitation to group boards

you can find directory of group boards here

    Angi (a58) on Pinterest
    in F a s h i o n (infashion) on Pinterest
    Eilin Cabutto (eilanice1) on Pinterest

in most cases instruction to join group board is given in board description ...
Pinning quality stuff can bring you some instant traffic blast, but don't over promote, don't just promote your site,

And last words first make sure your account has some plenty of boards with quality pins and likes.. only then your chances of getting on these big boards will increase

It really depends on what you're selling. Pinterest works really well for fashion, furnishing and stuff that people generally will want to Pin- art stuff, design stuff, that sort of thing.

Your goal should be to curate an interesting and compelling feed for your target audience. What sort of stuff would they be interested in? What's cool, fun, interesting? Start there, and develop a following. The sales come naturally from that.

I get over 1000 visitors a day from pinterest to one of my sites which an image sharing site so I can cover any niche. The major factor when generating traffic from pinterest is the way you source, name and upload your images to your website and pinterest.

I use "social pro" to auto post images to pinterest to make things simple. The trick is in when getting the images to post. I find using a screen capture addon to copy the image slightly smaller than it is and giving it a unique name but including your main kw is very important. None of this right click and save, as that saves more information than just the image and if it has been added to pinterest before it will not get indexed and listed by their algo. Therefore no traffic.

I also use the "image to post" plugin so whenever I upload an image a post is auto made and then shared instantly on pinterest, tumblr, facebook and twitter. I spend an hour a day collecting and posting 20-50 pictures a day using this method. It then takes 4-5 days to start seeing traffic for those images.

I monetize with adsense but have used amazon in the past with some success. Of course there are ways to directly post amazon links without being caught but I will keep that to my self for now.

    Hope this helps?
