Hello friends,

I sure that that is an interesting question and I think that more people will choose facbook is the best for you but for me, I will choose Twitter because Twitter brings me more customers and traffic than Facebook.

What about you ? Facebook vs Twitter, which is better ?
#facebook #twitter

    Hi,
In my opinion Facebook is much better then Twitter.
The reason is that Facebook is popular among every age group, so you get huge audience for your product or website.

      Facebook without question.

I still don't get why "average" people use Twitter.

It only makes sense to me if you're a celebrity or a marketer like us trying to sell to these "average" people.

By average I just mean average everyday people.

You can 'find' people to follow you back based on interest. This isn't so easy with Facebook or at least the solution evades me, and the OP, according to his query.
Yeah and how many visitors are your articles getting from those 500 followers? I'll guess it's a number between 0 and 10.

Yes, its a little more difficult to get things going on Facebook but who cares?

When you're getting thousands of visitors a day and making thousands per month, you won't even be thinking about how difficult it may have been in the beginning.

You just need to accept the fact that in order to succeed, you have to learn new skills.

Facebook marketing should definitely be one of them.

Twitter traffic is garbage. Unless you have hundreds of thousands of real followers

I doubt it's coming from those 500 followers. It could be a combination of things from twitter.

              But I could be wrong.

I'm just going by my own stats.

And out of 227,000 visits in the last 30 days, Twitter accounted for a whopping 231 from 971 followers and hundreds of retweets of my posts.

                Similar experience here.

I'm using Twitter only to stay in touch with already hooked up visitors. Seems they like it, and I don't mind spending a few minutes a day on them to keep them reminded of me. I don't even have any hopes of getting some serious traffic via that platform.

this different to me, I got more views from Twitter, even sales via Twitter for my forum. Thus, for me, I always vote Twitter is my number 1 social networks.

But I do know a guy that is pretty much a Twitter genius...

That isn't even in Internet Marketing...

And each tweet to his site gets around 1,500 views (10,000 followers).

Those ARE some pretty good numbers imo.

But overall, yeah Facebook takes it for most.

I personally couldn't agree more. I think a lot of people would still choose to sell their stuff on Facebook for obvious reasons - it's visually more interesting and appealing that Twitter. You can also customize your post on Facebook as to how you would want people to see it as compared to Twitter wherein you only get to see a very short introduction and then a link to it. If you're lucky, you might also get a photo along with the post to give you an idea of what you're getting into.

Don't you hate that. The Big G loves to ban folks for almost any reason now days.

      /rant off

Believe it or not I've not lost an adsense account or had a site delisted, but have a lot of friends who have. Just used to LOVE Google and they've changed so much over the years.

Back on topic. I have a decent sized twitter following but it seems most folks on twitter are not that engaged with it. On FB, people are online there a LOT. There's a high percentage of people in all age groups who are certifiably addicted to FB. To me, that makes a much more fruitful advertising base.

I would say Facebook hands down completely! FB is very user friendly and there are many ways that you can use it to increase your email subscribers list. You can use FB groups, Fanpages or use their CPC or CPM Models. Are you doing list building with twitter?

Organic or paid? I think both platforms are now increasingly accurate with targeting on the paid side. On the organic side it has to be Twitter that is my preference purely because you can respond to someone's tweet and jump straight into conversation even if they don't follow you.

For e.g. you sell SEO services and search twitter for latest genuine seo queries. It's a great way to build relationships. This just isn't possible on Facebook due to privacy settings.

On the paid side however, the reach you can get from Facebook is incredible.

One more thing, Twitter is excellent for PR. All the journalists are on it and very active. Just search for the hashtag #journorequest and see for yourself!

I would say Facebook is #1, it has a few more advantages: For example videos. They're becoming more and more important because they can easily entertain and mostly doesn't require any efforts like understanding written words or something. Like I you can see here about facts about online video, Facebook is now number two after YouTube in terms of unique video viewers. That shows the importance of videos - and twitter tries to keep up with Vine.

Facebook has over 1.2 billion active users, potential clients

Twitter has only about 0.2 billion active users, from which a majority are unfortunately spammers.

I use both facebook and twitter for my consumer oriented niche health site. I started with twitter almost exclusively and built the page to over 50,000. I thought it was doing great, but google analytics showed me that very few people were clicking through on links to articles...like 10 per tweet. Then, I concentrated on facebook. The click throughs skyrocketed. I now have over 108,000 and each post brings hundreds or thousands. The key with Facebook is maintaining high engagement. Mine is 113,000, but it can go up or down within a few days. I tied my facebook to twitter, so everything on facebook posts to twitter. With twitter, I was highly engaged, posting back and forth with huge Interaction responses, but the click throughs never approached Facebook.

It is time to check in on the battle between Facebook and Twitter for dominance of the social media LOL. I like Facebook and Twitter both, with a slight edge to Twitter for it value as a news source and as a vehicle for B2B and B2C. Facebook does so well with the former. But instead of these two, my choice is Google+ which combines the best of both worlds and comes with built in SEO.

I get more traffic from facebook but I like using Twitter as well. Facebook doesn't want you to meet new people so I find it hard to get new followers without spending. Twitter I can send out 200 targeted emails a day for free so that is pretty cool. I get a few new fans a month on FB but can get as many new followers on twitter as I want.

There's no reason to choose. Both networks have huge audiences and, regardless of your business, it's very likely segments of your market use both networks. Learn the proper etiquette of each network and combine their strengths. If you're doing any type of content marketing (and you should be), you would be stupid not to use both networks.

Aside from that, there's a lot of really bad advice from some people in this thread. If you're impression of Twitter is still that it's only for celebrities or people wanting to broadcast every minute event in their life like brushing their teeth, you really shouldn't be giving advice about social media marketing. That was decent advice 2007; it's terrible advice now.

There is an incredible amount of substantive discussion on Twitter. There are tons of business opportunities on Twitter. It is, by far, a much better method of spreading your content quickly. It is quite a lot easier to grow an audience, because Twitter is extremely open compared to Facebook.

Twitter is absolutely not just for celebrities any more and it's not a feed of mindless updates anymore, assuming it ever was.

Perhaps for you. For me, it is one of the highest drivers of traffic and they stay on the site just as long as visitors from Facebook.

I have 1,300 followers -- such is the beauty of Twitter. You don't need hundreds of thousands of followers to make an impact anymore than you need hundreds of thousands of fans on Facebook to make an impact. The ability to share via retweet increases reach of updates very easily and quickly.

You must not be dealing with the same kind of traffic numbers as me. I could be mistaken but for you to say that Twitter is your highest source of traffic tells me you don't get very much traffic from anywhere else or at all.

For Twitter to be your largest source of traffic and from only 1300 followers leads me to believe that you don't get much of any traffic from anywhere else, let alone much from twitter itself.

Facebook is a traffic powerhouse if you know how to use it properly.

I could be mistaken, but thats' just what i'm seeing from running a super high traffic authority site.

I think facebook is better than twitter.Facebook appeals to people looking to reconnect with old friends and family members or find new friends online; the mashup of features like email, instant messaging, image and video sharing, etc. feels familiar, while Twitter is a bit harder to get your arms around at first.

It depends on what you're selling, and where your audience hangs out.

For us, for instance, we sell customer referral programs to businesses and marketers. Most of these people are easier to reach on Twitter than on Facebook. So Twitter gives us a much better ROI.

Facebook is better for reaching "regular" consumers- if you're selling dresses or shoes, for instance, or Oreos.

  • I prefer FB... I use/ have both but the average person on fb may have between 100-200 friends and may like a few pages but if you are on twitter most people are following hundreds - thousands of people so your news feed is forever ticking over, and who scrolls their twitter news feed.. not me so its harder for people to see what your saying, promoting etc where as on FB your fan base are more likely to see what you have to say.. Plus you cant really having a meaning conversation on twitter..

      Interesting back and forth.

I launched a new site 3 weeks ago and have been integrating all social media.

I do social media duties on a daily basis. I've added 50 people on twitter almost daily.

      What is interesting...

The top 3 social media referrals based on google analytics are:

      1. LinkedIn

      2. Facebook (however, I wasn't using a facebook fan page, but my own personal. And I only mentioned my page 2 times out of 20 posts. So I'm sure this would be #1 if i posted to my personal every day.)

      3. Google Plus.

Twitter.... isn't even in my top 15 traffic referrals in my google analytics.

And as other people have mentioned there are a lot of fake accounts and DM's aren't read in my personal experience.

Thought I would share this. I'm sure others may differ. But Twitter is a large uphill grind with little ROI in terms of time commitment that could be allocated to other social media for me personally.

I still have twitter automatically tweet for me my blog posts for seo, but other than that... I think i have to put twitter to rest.

Good question Twitter has more brand appeal than facebook. Most big name musicians, athletes, entertainers etc prefer twitter. There's a reason for that, and twitter is just straight to the point. It only allows you 140 characters, so you have to think and not beat around the bush when writing your status.

As it's said, facebook is like your living room and twitter is like the bar. If you have a lot to say and want to more engage your group, then facebook is for you. If you do shorter updates and want to respond more in a live chat type of way, then twitter is for you. And, facebook is too time consuming dealing with comments, likes, being tagged, added to groups without your permission, getting a million game invites lol, and the usual 100 "like my page invites" (from the same person ).

However, I have tested it. When it comes to sales, facebook does beat twitter hands down, I've made more sales on facebook than on twitter, and that's just with recommending through my status updates and not doing it through FB ads, so you will get more response because it get's people talking and joining in on the conversation, which pulls more attention overtime.

Most people however, prefer going to their favorite brands twitter profile before they do on facebook. That's why you usually see twitter being promoted everywhere. ofcourse it's wise to do both to reach a wider audience, but I'm a ole' school twitter head. Better for branding and making things go viral. Didn't facebook just copy twitter with the #hashtags? Just kidding

You have many different ways to use it - posts, pages, groups, ads etc. I've also noticed that on Twitter more people are trying to just get their message out and ignoring everyone else, while on Facebook people are actually reading the posts. It's not about selling on social, it's about bringing together a group of people (Facebook) that have similar interests or interacting with people on twitter based on similar interests and conversations.

Which is better? I agree with ReferralCandy- it depends on what your niche is.
    There's no right answer.

I guess the reason that you get more customers and traffic through twitter than Facebook is that you may more time on twitter, am I right?

Twitter is the most effective way to post your information, because you just need to type several lines and then you can finish posting your information. However, I like Facebook more than twitter because facebook allows us post information in details and facebook give us more options to communicate with our friends.

Social media trend is the most effective tool to spread your news and reach millions of people in no time. There are many sites leveraging day by day, but I'd focus on 2 major sites-
    Facebook and
    Twitter

Why most people fail to benefit from social media campaigns?
I'm a sufferer and learned from failed attempts. That's why I can share my story to make you build better audience. Most campaigns do fail due to improper planning, over usage, untargeted audience and poor landing pages. I heard many people investing a lot of money for social promotions that resulted in digging their pockets.

Facebook overhaul: If you take a look at FB pages, you'll find hundreds of fanpages having 50,000+ fans. But how many get conversions? Probably less than 5%. That means 95% people are loosing bucks.
Once a people contacted me to sell his page with 150,000 fans. He wanted to sell because he can't make a penny from it.
There are lots of pages you'll find thousands of fans, but 0 interaction, no people like or comment on it.

Twitter overhaul: Same goes for twitter. Most of massive twitter follower-base profiles go without earning. About hundreds cheap fiverr gigs are available who want to tweet to their 100,000+ followers for 5 bucks.
Once I used one of them, that resulted me only 2 clicks. Holy gossss.
Most twitter users suffer from this scenario.

    Which one wins?
To get fans is not easy, you've to do lots of works. You can use exchange services, but facebook frequently bans such pages.
Comparatively its easy to get twitter followers. There are handy software that can give you targeted followers, damn cheaper than facebook ads. And twitter exchange programs really work fine. Twitter directories work great to gain targeted followers.

Next one is placing links. how many links you can post on FB? Probably very few, if you post more 2-3 links at a time, FB will block you.
But you can post min 20 links on twitter without getting boiled. And most important key is you can post same link over and over 2-3 times a day. If it happens for FB, fans will leave and FB may blacklist you.

Getting traffic: Facebook drives quick traffic for photos, not for all links. 1%-5% CTR is very common for fanpages while some act very poor.
Twitter CTR is reasonably low, ideally we expect 0.5%-1.5% and it depends on 140 letters quality. But you can tweet same link 5-10 times, means 5-10 times traffic to your site.

I'm writing my words. And like to know what others see outcomes from these 2 giant networks.

Both have their place. If you aren't using one you're missing out on a big chunk of traffic. Even if you only spend a few minutes per day on the one that you feel is "less better". It can still make enough of a difference to spend those extra couple minutes.

Great point that you have made. When you use a variety of social media, you are more likely to hit a larger section of an audience than if you only use one. Even if you can not be on it daily, it does pay to make an account and use it once in a while.

At the end of the day, our preferences don't matter. What does matter is where your target market is - and where you're merchants, brands & market leaders are.

Someone asked earlier why an average person would even use Twitter. The answer: because mainstream media is constantly encouraging it. Just turn on the TV and watch the hashtags flying all over the place!

If you're targeting a female audience, you need to be on Pinterest. Male/Tech, Google+. If you have a service-based business or target Professionals: LinkedIn. Want to network with brands and/or get sponsors & paid blogging opps: Twitter.

So it's less about your preferences, and more about serving your market, as well as your specific objective.

Facebook for me. I have used both for marketing my site but I found Facebook traffic to be much higher quality, and I found it easier to get traffic too. Facebook fan pages are a lot easier to promote than Twitter accounts, and you can reach out to so many people. You can take advantage of viral photo's too, and hold competitions a lot easier as well. Don't completely ignore Twitter though, it is useful too.

I personally have never made a dime from Twitter or seen traffic coming from it and i have more followers on Twitter than I do on Facebook. I guess it all depends on who your target audience is, what your niche is and and what you're selling to them as well as the quality of your followers.

When I check the social profile of my list very few of them have twitter accounts but they all have facebook profiles.

There's SO much you can do to build your business on various social channels - much more than just "selling" to your followers. Including connecting with brands, merchants, affiliates & JV partners, market leaders / influencers, etc.

You may not see a high (direct) conversion rate on Twitter for example, but what if a major brand promotes your offer to their thousands of Facebook Fans (totally unsolicited highly targeted FREE advertising) based on a Tweet they saw because you used the right hashtag? This is from my own personal experience, and has happened more than once.

EVERY social channel has huge potential. It's a matter of using it correctly, and having a specific objective that strategically grows your business.

OK in my opinion you should be taking advantage of as many traffic getting methods as you can. Both Facebook and twitter have their own merits, and if you are merely using either or both for social bookmarking purposes, you won't lose out.

I for one take advantage of these and others social sites with no great investment of my time.

Both Facebook and Twitter have distinct advantages and disadvantages, so in marketing they should be use to complement each other, and not a one vs other choice. There are people on Twitter who are not avid Facebook users and vice versa. Therefore to get to both crowds, you need to have marketing strategies for both FB and Twitter. My humble opinion.

Facebook to Twitter is like apples and oranges. It really depends on your objective.

I personally don't spend much time on Facebook. Nor does my company spend much energy advertising on there. Why? Because Facebook is purely a consumer network where as a marketer, what you are trying to do, is intrude on individuals' personal communication with their friends and family. Granted, Facebook is becoming incredibly accurate at targeting demographics with ads, but it will always be a place where people are AVOIDING hearing from you and looking at your ads.

On the other hand, Twitter, while its user base is not as large, and it's not quite as sophisticated at targeting ads, it is much more natural to be marketed to when you're on there. What you may not realize is that people are increasingly using twitter as a source of information - what articles to read, what news just broke, etc. I've never experienced another service that, when i see an ad (in this case a sponsored tweet), i actually read them, because they're so natural to what I'm already doing on Twitter.

The only service that trumps Twitter's ability to naturally market to its audience is the big G. People go to Google to find things, so being advertised to, and in turn helping people more easily find what they were searching for (adwords) will always be king in internet marketing.

As a general rule of thumb, if you're advertising to consumers, Facebook may seem like the place to do so, but in the long run you're likely going to have more success engaging with and marketing to an audience that wants to be engaged with - such as Twitter.

Are you making these claims based on your own experience marketing on Facebook?

I can tell you from personal experience and from the experiences of people I mastermind with that people on Facebook do not "AVOID" looking at your ads. They are on Facebook TO be engaged. And they will buy or take whatever action it is you want them to take if you put the right offer in front of them.

At least they do from me and countless others - says my ROI.

Maybe you weren't doing it right. Either way if you don't use Facebook as one of your marketing channels you are leaving A LOT of money on the table.

          You're right about B2C

I haven't tried B2B yet, but I'm sure I could get it to work. Just remember, decision makers for companies spend almost as much time on Facebook throughout the day as regular consumers.

You just have to figure out the angle that will at least get you to break even, then work from there.

And when you said you tried it before, how much money did you throw at it in FB ads?

  • From our research, if you are talking about conversions, Facebook converts 1-5%, Twitter converts 1-3%. We are in the bar/restaurant vertical, so keep that in mind. These are the numbers to convert people to a physical location. Mobile coupons convert in the 10-25% range. You would need to organically generate your own Opt-In list to send out those coupons and/or contacts via text. More work but better results.

I use both. The main reason for me using them are for backlinks to my content. Facebook feels more personal. It is quite difficult to draw comparison between Facebook and Twitter, Both Facebook & Twitter has there own benefits & Limitation. On one hand where Face book offer you reach your audience through social media business page, get instant feedback regarding your products, service, sharing etc. On other hand Twitter provide platform for increasing your follower, re-tweeting facilities etc. Choosing of Facebook or Twitter does depend on the Geographics region of your country. what people or audience prefer over the other.

Two different animals which serves different purposes. I find myself on FB most of the time because it is more content driven. IMO FB is great for B2C advertising-that's if your clients are individual consumers. If you are B2B, Twitter "may" benefit you more. I say use both and link the two accounts. Post on FB and it will auto tweet. Can't really compare the two at this point. We'll see which one is better once Twitter goes public(IPO).

Interesting demographics by BI Intelligence. If your looking for an audience with money, 73% of FB users report income in excess of $75k. Twitter users, less than 8% reach that level. OTOH, Twitter is trending younger with 27% between 18 & 29 (vs. 30-40s only 8%). End of the day, I'd use Twitter to support and build buzz but Facebook to seal the deal.

When we think of Facebook, first thing that comes in mind is images, videos, likes, comments, interactions, etc. With Twitter, points that strike are 140 characters, new updates, latest updates, followers, tweets, etc. There is a link between these two social media sites and that is the use of "Hashtags" which was introduced recently.

Both are at the top and trending today in social media. Both rock in their own ways.

Hi, Twitter and FaceBook have both been gaining so much popularity. A lot of people would argue that Twitter is better than FaceBook, while others prefer FaceBook over Twitter. I am a huge fan and user of both social media platforms. Twitter drives the most traffic of all the major social networks ! A study showed that shares made on Twitter trigger, on average, 33 visits to websites, compared to 14 for Facebook and 10 for LinkedIn. I can confirm this fact, as I study everyday's clicks on this blog - and the majority of visitors come from Twitter. Twitter is better than Facebook because I feel as if a lot more people now have a Twitter. At one point Facebook was popular but then people switched over to Twitter because people are able to post pretty much whatever they want. And say almost anything that they want. Also, it is also much simpler so its easier for the adults who do use it. Have a nice day

Facebook. THere is nothing better than having a truthful fan community around a certain topic on Facebook. Twitter is much more limited concerning the options you have to build a lasting relationship with your fans. Furthermore, twitter doesn't allow to buy followers legally. In case of Facebook, you can purchase "likes" and take your business to your next level. Content goes also more viral on Facebook than on Twitter.

This is a tad like fanboys arguing if Superman or Thor would win in a fight. Facebook and Twitter are totally different creatures, each with its own capacities and advantages. It's not about figuring out which one is objectively better, it's about finding the optimal solution for your own business.

And Thor would totally kick Kryptonian butt, by the way.

No way. Thor's abilities come from magic, whereas Superman's come from the sun. It's easier to stop magic (with equally powerful science) than it is to eliminate the center of our solar system.

In my opinion both social networking site have their own importance we can not compare each other as their format is completely different as on twitter their is some limitation of words on post where as there is no word limit on facebook for post and comment and there is some limited access and restriction on twitter, but these things are very lees on facebook in comparison to twitter. If we talk about traffic from these two sits i think twitter provides more traffic in comparison to facebook because of its restriction on word limit that is why it only provide the specific description for detailed description we need to follow the link so most of the time people make their tweet attractive so that user can follow the link whereas on facebook their is lots of thing is their without any restriction so it is difficult to make a post unique and attractive enough to draw the traffic.

You can also start up chats with people easier and have a complete log of conversations for years... Which makes it easy to remember what you talked about before with that same person!

I say use both to help build each other! I used twitter to build my Facebook friends fast and that has worked wonders in my business!

Generally they are both perfect if you know which one where and how to use. They are both good for different areas and you can benefit from them differently. Twitter is more for sharing short texts. If you have a news or some phrases to share twitter can get you better results by tweeting, use it as rss feed. For other stuffs use facebook. You also can use twitter to tweet your facebook posts. The audience that you can reach in both may be different. That's why if you use both in the right way, you will be able to benefit from both and reach audiences in both that you may not be able to reach at only one of them. Differ both from each other.

I've been seeing more action - retweets, follows, favorites, traffic - from Twitter over the past month. About zero from Facebook, even from a page with 14k followers.

I LOVE the simplicity of Twitter and the streamlined look. I plan to use it to help sell my Amazon books.

Plus with 4756385656439 users, Facebook is too full of people. I choose to be a bigger fish in a smaller pond with Twitter, instead of a single-celled organism in an ocean with Facebook.

Of course, you can link them all from one dashboard...

Maybe this is true since Facebook is more for the 20+ crowd (lots of parents in there too) and many kids don't want to hang out on a site where mom and dad is. That's why Twitter and these other sites including Instagram are picking up in popularity.

It depends what you are using it for.... Twitter is more basic than Facebook. With Facebook you can do many things that can't be done with twitter. I guess they both have their uses.

  • I personally have more success with Facebook than Twitter, I guess it is because the interaction is more visual and therefore a post has the potential to go viral.

Once can be much more detailed with Facebook whereas Twitter is more concise. Also, tweets can be shown on one's Facebook page, so I think Facebook is more all-encompassing.

Yestyle, good question. Our marketing group recommends that the signature you post in your content include your Facebook address for people to click on or copy and paste.

Think about it, when you connect with people on facebook, you also connect with their friends! If you post on their timeline, their friends will potentially see the content - and the average person has 150 friends!

    Have a fantastic day!

Facebook is better than twitter .Facebook gets an A+ for network reach, with 1.15 billion active users that share 4.75 billion items daily.

Facebook allows you to share a lot more information at a glance than Twitter does. You can imbed images, videos, and even create interactive pages.

Facebook is also a great place to offer colorful coupons, article excerpts, and incentives such as "like" our page and get 10% off or we will "like" you back.

But when it comes to business and marketing issue. I would always prefer pinterest. Because:

    2. Targeted traffic
    3. Most of users are ladies, passionate about shopping

  • I believe the combination of using both together works really well. We take care of a lot of business' accounts and we put together a pretty solid way of growing communities by linking twitters, facebook and instagrams together... also with local directory sites to ensure reviews/ratings were given!

Off course, Facebook have more visters then Twitter,
Facebook have fan page option meanwhile, Twitter has no fan page options.
Facebook also offers PPC (Paid Campaigns) for advertiser, and Twitter has not any options.
so i would like to recommend FaceBook and Google Plus for best Advertiser, Twitter is just only for Personal Tweets.

  • With Facebook you can build more of a relationship with your prospects and customers, which will turn them into more of a life long customer if done right.

Where as Twitter is more of waving hello to people, it will drive a lot of traffic and make a few sales but that's it pretty much a drive by. Now if you can drive them back to facebook have them like your page, then you can target them on both platforms.

But hands down Facebook is better and for many reasons.

This isn't a fair question, really. It's like "Apples or oranges?" They are two different things. If you're going to have to choose only one thing for some reason, then Facebook all the way (to the bank!) but if there's no reason you can't have a twitter account as well then have both. Depending on your niche, you can really get a lot of bang for your buck.

It would have to be Facebook, although for a complete campaign I would not avoid using Twitter totally. It almost depends on your niche, but I would expect most marketers and businesses to get more out of Facebook every time. The proof is in the pudding - I've had leads and reasonable traffic from both, so I wouldn't choose one over the other unless your time is very limited.

For personal use, I have always seen Facebook being the best and to me, Twitter isn't even a comparison. Unfortunately when it comes to business, both have pros and cons. I have found that businesses starting up on social media get a lot more traffic via Twitter. It seems like it takes twice as long to build up a page on Facebook versus on Twitter. Like someone already mentioned, a lot of the people that respond, follow you, and etc. are spam or aren't valid/reputable pages. It is important to be on both to reach out to different types of audiences, and it is also nice to not have a word limit on Facebook. It's also important to get the word of your pages out through people you know, and have ones that have an influence in your industry to pass it along...the old 'word of mouth' sometimes works better than paying for followers.

I see a lot of people saying Facebook, so i will play devils advocate here and side with Twitter

    Here are the facts

Twitters IPO did much better than Facebook. Its IPO per share valuation almost double in the first 24 hours.
Twitter has much more room for growth. Twitter is respectively just getting started
Twitters share of Mobile Platform was 70%
Twitters Advertising is much more user friendly because it focuses on engagement rather than clicks or views
Facebook has become more of an anti-social network lately...i digress on that one
Twitter spends more of its revenue on R and D than any other social network platform

There are other reasons but I will leave it at that. Just another viewpoint on the discussion

Facebook and Twitter isn't a good comparison. Both can make you money, but FB is hot right now and every marketer knows.

You can generate money with Twitter, but you have to get interactive with the community; and stop hyper-posting your affiliate links. Twitter is more like a cat, you have to earn its respect.

Now, if you want to spark a real conversation, compare Facebook to Google+ and take a pulse of the market. The Big G is the silent killer. So remember this, when everyone is going right... the future is left. (There's opportunity here for the smart marketer.)

I think Facebook have some advantage over twitter that Facebook have more trust between friends so that when you promote a product there you are most likely to get results with Facebook. However it all depends on your own behavior on those social websites, how many followers or friends you have and the amount of engagement you have. you have to test by your own to see which one is better for you.

The trust element is a huge factor with online audiences. When you can establish trust with the people you are marketing to, you have a better chance of converting into traffic/sales. These people want useful information that enriches their lives. And, friends are perfect for sharing with online as they are more likely to listen to what you have to say.

It depends upon your business or marketing objective and your most wanted TG, if you look at PR twitter is PR10 which is one among very few and FB is PR9. FB offers various options to target or reach right TG, Twitter does not have that. And in advertisement point of view also facebook is better than twitter. But lot of practising marketers claim that Twitter drives better quality traffic than FB.
