what's best for one may not be the best for others. here's some methods you could try

network: connect with other leaders/influencers in your niche and create a win-win scenario where they'll tweet about you

follow/follow back: find a larger account in your niche and begin to follow 100-200 of their followers per day. some will follow you back

follow-gate content: use software to lock content on your website until someone follows your twitter account

contests: use software that registers a follow as an entry into a contest/sweepstakes

I've been having medium success building a twitter following for a client at the moment, mostly using Follow/Unfollow through manageflitter, and but also some of the before mentioned.

I have been pushing decent content creation, leading to a blog set up for the purpose of seo, that always seems to bring in a few extra followers, but I'm struggling to move it to the next level so to speak.

I have around 1000 followers at the moment and am following 600, so not a bad ratio.

Would be great to read any tips for pushing the account to the 1500 mark and beyond!

What you are doing sounds great. Just some words of advice. Don't follow two many people at once and always flush the people who are not following you back. I have 2500+ followers and I am following about 200 followers more than I already have.

I use tweepi.com to follow/unfollow.

I got over 1,500 followers this way.

  Whatever niche I am targeting I use the "follow followers" function and follow an authority 200 of their people a day. Then I use the flush option, go to the back of the list and unfollow about 40 people a day.

Additional suggestions that can really help are first, put Twitter buttons with presence on your website; second, include a "follow me on Twitter" on your email signature; link your Twitter on other social media platforms; and of course, tweet useful content often.

Here my tips
1. retweeet or repost messages from people you like
2. Don't just follow celebrities some of the best contacts and people who helped me the most on twitter did not have thousands of followers

A really good way to grow relevant followers is to take part in regular tweetchats around specific hashtags. There's an excellent directory called The Chat Diary that lists the tweetchats that take place - you can search by keyword, day and topic. When you take part in the chat don't just sent out advertising tweets - interacting with others taking part makes you stand out more.

Make a list of some big blogs under your niche that have a huge list of twitter followers.
Open their twitter page.
Now check their followers
Click on FOLLOWERS link and follow their followers as many as possible.
here are those people who have interest in your niche. Follow maximum people to gain maximum followers. There is really a cool formula on twitter that "You Follow Me, I Follow You Back!". When we follow others, the majority of people follow us back on twitter.
That's it!
These were very simple steps to increase targeted followers on twitter.
I personally followed this steps and its really working fine.

The way I got targeted Twitter followers for my site was interacting with related people and businesses in my niche. Getting Retweets and mentions in bigger accounts related to your niche will definitely help and gain you exposure. Try take advantage of the hashtag function.

I had over 60,000 twitter followers before twitter targeted tweetadder and terminated my account.. My advice would be to do the follows manually auto follow back using socialoomph and the follower finder you just click to manually add the followers.. Interact and provide value and don't follow too many too fast I would do 50 a day max.. And use an unfollow software to unfollow people that are not following you back.

Do it the organic way—engage, have conversations, treat people decently, keep an eye on the tweets around your area, jump on the opportunity to go the extra mile if you can (viral potential is always present).

I like to use Twitter ads to have my account shown on related accounts in the sidebar under the "who to follow" section. You can set a maximum ad spend and you can promote tweets and/or pay per follow.

This is about as targeted as you can get as you get to set the targeting when creating your ad.

I always used good jokes, great tags along with a good bot. I also used tweetdeck back in the day, but now I use hootsuite. This combination made it fairly easy to become a twitter power user quickly (few months)

Post useful content on Twitter. Link them to your site, find people in your niche and communicate with them. Follow people who have top followers, do value tweets. Exposure can give you good amount of traffic this way.

1. Create a Flashy Profile Picture.
