How about in long term traffic or short term traffic? Which way to go?

Or it differs on the niche you choose?
To be honest, it is totally depended on the niche that you are in. For
example, if you are promoting a health product, not everyone on face-
book would be your targeted visitors. This number can be only one-
eighth. However, for SEO, the people, who are looking up for your
specific keywords, are most likely to be targeted visitors. With this
cause, I personally believe that SEO, in fact, is a lot more effective
than social media in several niches.

On the other hand, if you have a product that can attract almost every-
one such as "learn how a 13-year-old boy make $3000 a day". Then,
it would be twenty easier to advertise through social media than spend-
ing your time building backlinks for your ranking. As I tell you in the
beginning, it totally depends on the niche that you are doing and the
type of audience you are capturing.

I hate the choice (I don't use either), but for me, Social Media, I think.

I'm an affiliate marketer, and SEO traffic is a waste of time, effort, energy and money for that (in all 9 of my niches): http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8659398

I'd try Social Media, given that dreadful choice, in the hope that, however poor quality it is (and I know it won't be great), it couldn't possibly be as bad as search engine traffic?

Both ways are very effective for traffic generation. It's very hard to compare between these two that which one is more effective. So I want to say that Social Media and SEO both are same effective for traffic generation.

The question shouldn't be which one is more effective, the question should be how much time are you willing to spend to make the method work.

Both methods work equally well if you're willing to put in the effort to make it work.

Well, I believe that Social Media and SEO are more effective when used together rather than using just one. They kind of need each other in a way to be considered as powerful marketing tools. The only challenge that one may encounter on one or the other is effectively prioritizing marketing time to its advantage.

    100% social media.

for SEO you are in the hands of google and if they don't like you you are gone from the internet search engine.

With Social media, because it is in a way word of mouth advertising, it can get viral and you may end up with a lot of free traffic.

Social media is also a direct contact with your readers/clients therefore a better relationship.
I tend to put the relationship with readers top of my list.

If done properly, SEO easily. But that is just my opinion. I have much better results with long-tail traffic from search engines then anything else that I do regularly.

From my experience do both but if you are on a limited budget only start with social media. The people you will hire to do the social media management will know how to get you traffic as opposed to you learning and then trying on your own. Big mistake!

Based on the question the only answer I can offer
is it depends on your level of skill with either.

Both can be extremely effective. The thing is, you must choose one and master it. Don't flip flop between the two as you will only be mediocre in both. Give one platform all your focus and energy to really reap results form it.

Some niches work great with social media while others don't.

Assuming yours will work with social, go for both types of traffic. Create posts that will attract social traffic and also create posts that will attract search engine traffic. Some will attract both.

Incorporate some keyword research into your content and do on-page SEO, but also start building up social platforms. Choose social platforms that will work for your niche... They do function differently. For example LinkedIn is best for B2B. Facebook works well with consumer and enthusiast niches and pinterest is visually oriented.

Hugely popular sites take this approach plus buy traffic. I strongly suggest creating some content with which you can profit from buying traffic so you can ramp up your traffic and business quickly... while building up social engagement and authority in the search engines.

All depends upon what sort of sector are you in. The best way is to write quality articles and put anchor text and share on social media. Which is quite important. Hope it helps.

It's the same thing that bothers me but I came up into a solution not to choose between SEO or Social media rather create separate campaigns for our marketing and lead generation. As we all know that social media can give instant boost of traffic yet has temporal effect while SEO does not guarantee easy and quick ROI yet it's good to invest in it to have a stable traffic in a long run. So it's better both.
