Moderation on this forum

Just came across this:

"Moderated: Stop posting this topic, scraping Facebook in anyway violates their Terms Of Service so do not post this topic, thank you."

I can't say I'm on here every day, but it's the first time I've ever seen a topic moderated on this forum, and considering amount of dodgy stuff some people post on here, I'm slightly surprised that the aforementioned topic triggered this response.

Not saying it's wrong - just wondering if this signals "climate change" on the forum...?

It signals no such thing. I've spent a pretty fair amount of time tracking down all the scraper shills that have been infesting this subforum in droves, all promoting the same software. And I'll keep reporting them until the vermin go elsewhere. This subforum is highly prone to spammers and if left alone, there aren't any real conversations about social media going on.

I'm not a moderator, but I'm a member moderator and I'll keep reporting as long as the spammers keep posting.

I've been trying to report them as I see them as well...I really hope nobody follows the link and buys the scraper. That's a surefire way to end up getting yourself banned from Facebook advertising.

Er - yes, I understand your point, but it wasn't really my point. There's a fair amount of stuff I personally object to on this forum, including exaggerated and utterly made-up claims, WSOs that don't work, won't work, can never work, etc etc, and some that are just out and out deceitful, bordering on illegal. I guess that's the nature of the beast - this place has great ideas, helpful people but it is also frequented by a thousand varieties of snake oil vendors. Caveat emptor and all that.
My point was that it seems there is action being taken against one kind of transgressor and fair enough - as I said, I'm not arguing. What I'm asking is whether this signals a change in policing of the forum (which always seemed so laissez faire in the past) and if so, will we also see other unethical and/or dangerous practices being proscribed?
Not trying to start an argument or defend anything - just asking if this is what is happening...

No, you're missing the point. Self promotion and dropping links to your own sites and products is not allowed and it makes no difference whatsoever what kind of product or service it is. SPAM is not allowed. It just so happens that there's been literally an invasion of this particular product. I have no comment either way on the moderator's comment. They are a mod and they make that call, but I will continue to report all self promoting, link dropping spammers, whatever they are promoting.

OK - thanks, you're right I was missing the context (some of which, in my defense, was deleted).
