Great post!

According to following different accounts on Twitter, you say that about 20% will follow you back. I am not certain of how accurate it is, but it seems about right!

When I follow accounts, not too many follow back, but I do notice a few here and there.

A great way to increase followers would be to just go to AddMeFast as well.

You will not get any success by doing this.
How about this one,

If you are a site trying to promote on twitter, follow relevant site to your niche.
After that, see who follows them and check if they are following more than having followers. If yes, follow them; if not, then look for another. Why? Because those who follows more but doesn't much have followers are more likely to follow back.

How's that??

Why do you want to increase the number of followers by just following them for the sake of it. I would follow someone if it is related to my theme or if i find their profile interesting. I don't think the numbers matter much, if you are looking to increase the traffic to your site. I don't think spam followers helps in that case.

  Following and then hoping some follow you back is not a great strategy. A much better way is to tweet really good value in your niche because retweets will get you targeted followers fast.
  
  Find good tweets and favorite them, gets you noticed.
  
  Sign up for "justretweet", you get great content and links, albeit for limited niches but you can build on a points based system that enables you to promote a tweet.

  You have a point, but avoid just following anybody. Find accounts in your niche that has a good folloeing and "cross follow" their followers first.
