Notifications: Someone replied to a thread with my comment + directly to my comment

I've been wondering, is it possible to get 2 notifications instead of one? The first one is to get a notification when someone replies to a thread with your comment, which is currently the case, if I'm not mistaken. The second, new one, is to get a (special) notification when someone replies directly to your comment. I think it's worth the trouble. That will allow us to choose, for instance, all new comments to threads associated to us, or to focus only on replies directly related to our comments. I think this could be very useful.

Thx.

So, when someone quotes you directly you mean? I think that's a good idea.

Unfortunately, some of the senior members with the highest post counts here don't grab the ID# and member name when they quote others. If that's the feature request, it's pretty cool, but I think a ton of other stuff needs addressed and fixed before worrying about a implementing a new feature like this.

      Cheers

This would be a great feature.

We will be looking into integrating this.

    Thanks for the suggestion!

Let's make sure we point out anything those nasty old senior members with high post counts do wrong....wouldn't want to miss a chance to do that.

    Dan -

I understand wanting to know when a comment has been added to a thread you have interest in. Proper functioning of the subscription option is important.

If you are already subscribed to the thread - why would you need to also be notified if someone "quotes" you? Wouldn't you SEE where someone has commented using a quote? What would be the advantage to the forum as a whole of adding that function (a question I think needs to be asked of any proposed changes)?

In theory, notification of "someone who quoted me in a post" could be to see how others view a problem or whether they agree with your assessment or have different options to consider.

In reality - it would be a quick way to jump back in to argue over and over without having to pay attention to the other posts in a thread. It would end up as "all about me" - and we have enough of that now.

It's easier for readers to see who was quoted when the ID and member name is grabbed, especially on long threads. It's really simple stuff.

You reply to a thread and you are automatically subscribed. You can also just subscribe the thread. You get a notification on that thread every time there is a new reply. This makes sense.

However sometimes you want to direct a question to someone in specific. Like I want to ask technical questions to Sid or want to pick Jason on copywriting, for example.

To be fair in my mind I read it as a 'mention' of someone rather than a quote.

      Does that make sense?

Similar to "X mentioned you in a comment" on Facebook?

Is there a way to integrate that here?
