html and wordpress under one domain

Hi there,

I have an HTML site uploaded via FTP to my domain but I also have a wordpress theme installed on my server as well for the same domain.

I want to use the wordpress theme to do some backend testing to create a mock-up design for another site without it being visible from the domain.

I noticed that my HTML site is still visible when I type my domain name (which is what I want) but I was wondering if having the installed wordpress theme will have an impact on SEO if I insert (different) content to my installed wordpress theme on the backend?

Can I continue to used the backend wordpress test theme installed under the same domain without it impacting my main HTML site?

I am not sure how the HTML site and wordpress site under one domain works.. Any help will be appreciated. Thank you!

I think it would work without any problems. Because first the webserver will try to serve the index.html file, if it is not found then it will look for the index.php file.
Since your html site will have the index.html file it will be the default home page.
But you can still view the WordPress website by going to index.php eg: http://site.com/index.php.
A better approach would be to install your testing WordPress environment to a separate folder or developing your theme locally.

You can also install Maintenance plugin for Wordpress. That way if anyone accesses you site (including web crawlers) they will be served with "This site is down for maintenance". If you're logged in however, it will display the content for you.

This shouldn't have any impact on SEO

Is it possible to have a 5 page website - 4 html and one wordpress blog posts (with the associated page to read more for the shortened version).

I am fairly poor at website design and still learning html5 and css3 so would like to have a website set up by a professional where I can easily post new blog posts with the seo plugin to quickly and easily get everything set up.

I'm aware I could have the whole site as wordpress but there are some features I want to implement that could be done better by html it looks like.

Is there a better option / CMS?

    Thanks.

Why not just install wordpress in a sub folder of your domain? Than you'd have no problems.
