Are these plugins really needed?

These 4 plugins are regarded as essential from a few articles I read.
I know some of them are self explanatory, though are they really needed or are is it just merely to be safe in knowledge you have yourself covered?

Backup Wordpress
W3 Total Cache
Wordfence Security
Wordpress SEO

What's your thoughts?

    The short answer is a big YES, if you don't put any security on your Website you are asking for trouble

    My email inbox is filled daily with attacks from software bots trying to hack my site ,I use the plugins that you have mentioned to stop theses attracts

    The internet is like the digital wild west - anything goes.

    If you want to work hard and build a website only to have it destroyed by some anonymous and faceless hacker then leave your WP site open fr attack

    Do you leave your front door open when you go on holiday

    Web security is one of the biggest issues online this sentry, there are endless examples of peoples online businesses and also there income being destroyed by hackers

    Don't be one of them

      Needed? not really... In all cases but one there are alternatives or the lack of need to use these

      I personally do not use this plugin. I do all of my back-ups on the server itself without the use of a plugin.

      W3 Total Cache
      I have sites that run without this. They tend to be smaller in size and load decently. If you your site is not having loading issues then this one isn't really needed.

      Wordfence Security
      I don't use this one either. I do something like described here: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/...o-secure-login

      Wordpress SEO
      Of all the plugins you have listed... I can not say in any instance do I NOT have a SEO plugin. I prefer YOAST but that's just me.

    • Backup Wordpress - NOT needed. You can back up via PHPAdmin or whatever it's called.
    • W3 Total Cache - NOT needed and will actually slow down a blog.
    • Wordfence Security - NOT needed since there are manual things you can for security instead.
    • Wordpress SEO - see above.


    I have never encountered a WordPress plugin that was absolutely necessary. Problem is, avoiding them requires some PHP knowledge. If you're willing to learn PHP, you can dump these plugins (or all of them) and quicken your blog at the same time.
