I am sick of constantly wasting time going to fiverr and then trying to explain to someone what I want an image to look like. I am technically inclined and learn fast. What I would like to do is learn how to use GIMP (I have it for free on my MAC) to do basic image editing.

The things that I need done are cleaning up images, making the backgrounds transparent, putting multiple images together into one, and soon I would like to also put images and text together into postcard advertisements.

This is all basic stuff, sometimes I figure it out but only after wasting too much time searching for how to do it

Does anyone know if a good tutorial for doing this basic type of stuff in GIMP?

Hi there... I don't know how to use GIMP (I use Photoshop), but I did a quick search on Google and found these sites... I believe this is what you were asking: 4.10.*Separating an Object From Its Background and .. those links should be able to get you started.

I can read - you began by saying you wanted to learn Gimp - someone mentioned videos and you said it was too time consuming to learn it.

For better results, hire more experienced freelancers, pay them accordingly and get better/easier results. or not.

IMO, learning something isn't a waste of time. There are heaps of materials online where you can learn how to use Gimp. Youtube, in example. Also, there are free pdfs that has Gimp tutorials on the internet.
If you don't want to pay more, you have to learn and study more. If you don't have the time to study/learn, you need to pay someone who is more knowledgeable about graphics than you are.

I strongly disagree with all this. Learning something could be a complete waste of time. I could spend the next 20 hours learning how to use gimp just to make an image for my website, or I could pay $5.50 for it while I go and spend those 20 hours doing my own profession in which I make a lot of money.

It's the same reason why I don't change my oil, mow my lawn, or clean my house myself anymore.

I don't know what you are talking about when you brought up "better results" in this last post of yours, you're just confusing yourself even more.

So again, what is this problem that you are talking about?

It seems like you have a chip on your shoulder, but picked the wrong thread to whine about it.
